slowly but surely next up is complete realignment of front end.. also steering column decided to be a but munch and started dropping ball bearings on the carpet lol :D.... after alignment get ac finished up and working next then road trip!!!!!! and 17 gas station stops to DFW lol gotta love a hungry mungry big block guys!!!!

Wow, I was looking at an old thread for wiper arms and wiper motors. I had for gotten all about you being from Gladewater. Went and realized I was not following your build. I have some reading to do to get caught up!

The cruise is usually the last Saturday of the month in downtown Kilgore. On Facebook, a group called Lone Star Lug Nuts - N East Texas usually has it posted...

Well took him for the "Gremlin" run friday and ooohhhh boy did he tell me he was not happy. got a rear brake issue to figure out plus after parking the gear shifter has locked itself in place and cannot get it moved out of park. it is definitely I am hoping a cable issue.. I disconnected the cable at the trans lever and the trans lever shifts just fine.. have to fix gear shifter then on to brakes... got him back into my shop and the rotors and pads were smoking so more to come on that one.... I am still very happy with the custom rear disc brakes but the lil details are finally getting worked out. 2008 silverado 2500 rear discs with drum parking brakes are getting there and on my near original dana 60 axle :D and yep this project has cost me almost an arm and a leg but once working good will be very satisfied with all the time and effort. as far as a kit welllllll I can provide the data just no time or ability to get this reproduced just yet. maybe when I retire *chuckles*

ok working on fixing a few gremlins. Shifter cable was not far enough away from the headers so melted the inside so it would not shift. Also fixing the brake lines on the master cylinder. I installed them backwards lol so having some issues there but more to come on the brake system. Looking at my console setup was not happy with how it all fit together.. So went on the hunt for an allison transmission shifter that has bump shift capability... Well apparently Kilduff is now doing a setup for them.... ok ok ok I am rambling a bit so here are some pictures :D First up the kilduff shifter and the bump shifter wiring. When I first did my allison I had to combble everything together myself. now they are getting more popular thanks god!!

next up brakes lines are fixed now just need to finish bleeding the brakes. Once that is done have apparently a caliper spacing issue to solve on the rear end to tackle once this is all through.

and last I am making progress on the faux stake side. Boards are cut and getting stained as we speak and then a nice clear bed liner coating then finished lol. After that get the tail lights mounted and working. After that will be back to the interior to get door panels installed and go for a nother test run..

hey yall have not posted in awhile. been getting things done... FINALLY!!!! got the brakes working right!!! so dammed happy... but then Mrs Allison decided to be an ass and having solenoid issues? not sure have to dig into the problem n see. Also got the dome light in from a friend in western texas and boooooyyyy howdy she's a bright one :D

all the years of futzing with this futzing with that paid off today. Drove him to his first car show. He got lots of compliments and even better a follower lol. A young 16 year old building a 74 chevy c10 asked if he could talk to me when he is working on the different parts of his truck. We traded number will be proud to help him out after all the crap I have messed up and learned from maybe I can help him out lol :D
ended up having to replace all the transmission to radiator lines on my truck no matter what I did they kept leaking. so bought a complete new set already built and so far thank heavens no more red drips from the front end. tho my truck being an ass peed some radiator fluid after all this to make a point lol :P

well the land rover console was great till I got the kilduff shifter. It was nowhere gonna be right for the setup. So said hell with it and started building my own. still need to get the panels covered with some vinyl... still thinking about leaving it raw abs too. got the usb ports finished up and they work fantastic wife was able to keep her phone and kindle charged on our last car show lol :D. Ironically got these from amazon... and found a connector GM one that fits perfectly.. Was in the junkyards quite awhile back and was getting some parts from a 79 gmc truck. saw the brake switch connector and harvested a few of them.. turns out the connector is perfect for the USB charger!

I have not posted for awhile due to work and everything else in life lol. but making progress.. Truck is running like a champ and OMG OMG the manual shift mode on the allie 6 speed is suwwweeeeetttt!!! I have been working on getting the ac hooked up and working and boy there have been a few headaches but that's ok. finally after trial error and a few bits of mental cussing its in the truck now to hook up the rest of the system. I tried to mount the drier where old air said to and ran into grill mounting issues. then got that solved and the way the ac lines were mounted I could not mount the core support covers lol. Well that's all fixed luckily there is a local ac supply shop to help out on this problem lol. here's some pics aint pretty but will work.

Well getting near the end of this truck build and totally tickled with how he is running and driving. few exhaust issues to figure out but otherwise LOVE IT!!!! Drove up to DFW for a local truck meeting and gossip session a couple weekends ago. othr then the exhaust drone at 60 mph he did fantastic... now after a few lil things to finish onwards to the suburban project!!!

Happily I can report the truck made the run to ddallas and back without any issues other then noisy exhaust system. planning to get that fixed in the next few weeks. Currently gathering some materials and a tool box to make a gas tank cover for the bed. Also bought a beautiful set of reproduction custom hood emblems. Pictures to follow.

Awesome truck, this a huge build thread! Did you every do any sound deadening in the cab? Just layed down a bunch of killmat in mine and wondering if I should do additional things to the cab before carpet goes in. Exhaust noise was a lot in my rig as well

ok back to an older project I started but never had the time to finish. Well he's close to being done as he can be so came back to the glovebox build. Had to completely go back and redesign it to clear the vent hoses from the old air products ac system...... still have not got that finished yet :D but will get there
so quite a bit of change from the first attempts but nice 5 inches deep on the passenger side so happy with how it's coming along. Talking to a hotrod shop that does 3d printing to take it and install in their GMC truck for tweaking the design :D

Whoa, this has been quite the saga. I wondered how you got from a 6.0 LS to the 8.1 but it made sense after reading all the way through. Seeing the various console ideas you tried out in this truck has me thinking of ideas for my '84. I will def be checking out Tap plastics for that.

Yeah the whole thing has been a long time learning curve :D. Loved every minute of it. Still have a few last things to get finished but otherwise runs and drives very well. Definitely more towing power down low then the 6.0 lol

I can imagine especially with all the sudden changes last min going from 6.0 then to Dmax it looked like at one point, back to 6.0 now back to the 8.1. Glad to see it is finally running under its own power as an 8.1. Any updates on the burb you bought along the way?

Hi Darkrider actually the Dmax was for the burb but **** went down with my daily so had to sell it. The suburban came with a 283 in dammed good shape so just going to run that with a 2 barrel sniper eventually. I was terrified of wiring when I had the 6.0, then the 6.2 came along and a bit of luck happened there so I decided to give wiring a try lol.... Called around looking for a used 6.2 harness..... car-part.com is great for finding stuff BTW called 5 different places *chuckles* and bingo last yard I called said oh yeah we have a harness for that they are in boxes in our storage room............... turns out the delivery van with the GM harnesses rolled over and was totalled cargo and all. With a brand new harness I figured lets try this out. and here we are.. Now the 6.2 I had to sell I do not know if I mentioned in this thread. We had to move to Tacoma washington from DFW and mom in law needed help. the all told 2500$ 6.2 had to go to finance the move. sold for 6500$, the 3rd 6.0 was beat to hell that's when I started hunting the 8.1 lol

Ahhh ok, Now I am tracking the story a bit better lol. If my '84 didn't already have a 350 Olds in it I would have likely considered going big block. May still do so down the road with a 455 since the truck is already set up for Olds engines.

Oh I see I never posted all the engines I have had mounted in this truck or tried to lol. Lets see original engine was a 292 6, then a junkyard 350, a 454 vortec, and lq4 6.0, cummins 6 cylinder (never made it to mounting had the infamous 59 block cracked water jackets), 1992 camaro 350 tpi was next, escalade 6.2 (lucky find on craigslist with the 6l80e for 1k), then the 454 (6000k rebuild price in washington state :/), next another 6.0 as described, finally the 8.1 lol

That is quite the list of engines that have gone through or nearly gone through this old truck. Hopefully, now that I have put the ex in the rearview I can get working on the '84 rather than just DDing it as I have been for the past couple of years.

well going back to an issue I found on the cruise to Dallas and back.. Cruise control was not working. So now that i have some times going to start tackling that problem on this truck. gmt400/gmt800 have an issue with LED lights and cruise control working. So that is one things to look at. Also ECM C1 pin 33 is another item to look at. Pin 33 needs 12 volts when the brake lever is not pressed. Will be testing that circuit tomorrow night now that I have the volt meter in a spot I can see it while pressing the brake lever :D . Also found a nice terminal that slides in the 8.1 ecm without damaging the terminal as well. Here are some pics. The tac module is getting the 12 volt brake light power so i may need to place a 6 ohm resistor somewhere in the harness. Thank heavens I built the entire harness modularly. So I can take out the tac/ throttle body wiring without removing the entire engine harness ROTFLMAOOO!!!! I used a 2 pin Delphi/aptiv sealed 2 pin connector for the ECM to tac communication wires :D I did a similar connector for the ECM to Transmission control module as well. Here are some pics of what I have setup for tomorrow night. the terminal is an MP100 delphi male terminal. I had some from back when I was buying up left overs from GM dealers in washington state lol
