Re: subwoofer boxes
Shouldnt i have enough space to mount a box on each side and still have space to mount the amp in the middle? I wonder why did they move this to the audio forum, if i am specifically looking for a box for a 73-87.

Re: subwoofer boxes
You will have enough room to mount the amp in the center, I was just offering my own personal recommendation.

Re: subwoofer boxes
i like the amp under the seat idea better.well thats what i did..
gives you the extra room to make the box bigger |
Re: subwoofer boxes
You guys are right, I think it might be better but I think those subs don't need that much air space do they? Do you know if they work like a regular sub that if you give them the max air space they require will make them play a little harder and handle more power? The amp I have for them is a kicker kx 1200.1 so I have the power to give them but another reason I wanted to mount it between the subs to give it an all kicker look, the subs matching the amps.

Re: subwoofer boxes
Here is what I did.
http://216.77.188.54/coDataImages/p/...7/DSC00573.JPG Had to move the amp down to the bottom so the seat would go all the way back. http://216.77.188.54/coDataImages/p/...2/DSC01022.JPG http://216.77.188.54/coDataImages/p/...7/DSC00554.JPG |

Re: subwoofer boxes
for the normal person, with a standard cab old truck. why the ned of 2 subs.
wouldn't one sub either run in mono or a dual coil sub run in 2 channel. be more than enough and alow more air room (cubic feet) to allow the sub to get lower in the range and be tighter with a sealed box.. I had a home made box in my 97 f150 with (2)jl 12" (very costly, but still their mid range sub) and it was overkill.. yes it sounded killer but the sub amp gain was almost off, as it over powered the rest of the sound, and it wasn't a lack of power to the mids and highs (rockfordfosgate 4 channel 100w per with the speakers bi amped, / and a 50w rockford 2 channel for the doors) sub was powered by a rockford monoblock 500w into 4ohm |
Re: subwoofer boxes
Hey 3r!c84. We used your dimensions and the box turned out great. Actually we added a 1/2" to the depth and made it 59" wide so we could mount an amp in the box. We also did some fiberglass door speakers and covered them in carpet.

Re: subwoofer boxes
Thats exactly what I want is your seat all the way back? I really like those pods you used for the 6x9s does your truck have, pwer windows?

Re: subwoofer boxes
The seat is one click forward but my son is only 5'-6" tall so it's good for him. The 10" Addicted Audio speakers had to be mounted all the way at the bottom to clear the back and then we had to mill some of the back panel for assurance.
The side door panels are made of wood frame, fiber glassed and then covered with carpet. A lot of work but well worth it. Yeas we have power windows so that's why the speakers stick into the cab so far. No room inside the door. Oh, we also lined the entire cab with Dynomat. HUGE difference! |
Re: subwoofer boxes
i would like to do that with the seat all the way back. I have 2 12" cvt kickers. What do you think?

Re: subwoofer boxes
Depends on the depth of the magnets. You can start with making a template of the side of the box in the shape you need, then place it behind the seat to see how much space you have. Then put it up against your speaker to see if it will clear the magnet.
I did a quick drawing to see if it would work (see below). http://i863.photobucket.com/albums/a...speakerbox.jpg |
