Re: 67-72 4x4 Scaratchbuild
Wow. I have never seen these before in my life! I wish I could buy a bulletproof axle for my rig for 150 bucks! although I am really bad with meticulous parts, so I'd probably lose 3/4 of everything. lol

Re: 67-72 4x4 Scaratchbuild
Jeffro2 I have been watching this build from your first post, you are very talented brother. I do model railroading in N scale as a hobby and use styrene to build buildings and other stuff, what you are doing is truely amazing, keep the updates coming.

I guess they are bullet proof, but probably not, :) Well, now you know where they are, and if you ever want to build something, I can try to answer any questions, from anyone if need be. Quote:
Trains have always had a special place in my heart also,( I still have the old rifle my great, great, great, etc.. Uncle Tom owned, who was a game getter for the railroad back in the late 1800's) and I like that you know about the uses of styrene. (Plus I still have my old HO train stuff from the mid 70's) I will keep the updates coming, once I get past this little slump. |
Re: 67-72 4x4 Scaratchbuild
Morning everyone, its Monday morning.
I'm slowly getting some of the details made. Cut out the cowl vents http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8249/8...8fb8bbbb_c.jpg worked on the tailgate opening http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8525/8...19eceec4_c.jpg Finished the cowl vent, although it needs a little tweaking, and I'm thinking of using these cab lights. I also coated the bed with a spray liner, and made the vent windows. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8384/8...e359fcc7_c.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8524/8...e4035d35_c.jpg More bits http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8546/8...3e48a467_c.jpg |

Sometimes I have to back up and punt, or something like that, and this is one of those times. I wasn't happy with the 1st grille or the 2nd one, so I ripped it out last night. 1st one was too large, the 2nd one was still just a little too large and ugly. Tonight I will try again, and hopefully next time you see it, it will look better. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8113/8...b0450c26_z.jpg Maybe the 3rd time will be the charmed one.. :) . |
Re: 67-72 4x4 Scaratchbuild
Sheesh! And here I thought it looked damn good! haha.

Not much time to chat, I'm almost late, for an early morning date with the wife's surgeon, (nothing major) so, this is the 4th and final grille, I give up, my hands cannot do the small pieces anymore. It works for me. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8244/8...d4c419a8_z.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8239/8...a4438ae3_z.jpg |

Re: 67-72 4x4 Scaratchbuild
@ RatRod, Thank you Josh. :)
@ Kurt L, Thank you Kurt, I do the best that my patience allows me to do. :) Whats funny, is everytime I build a different vehicle, thats what I want in my driveway. :D Anyway, I am done with the body work, until I change my mind in a year or so and try to perfect a couple areas that have me po'd, but I'm tired of messing with it, and besides once I take it out and get it dirty and scratched up and rolled a few times, it will look fine. :) So onto the paint booth. ( Should I repaint the bed interior black or make it red ???) http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8405/8...176b9bff_c.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8524/8...cd01fb5a_c.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8116/8...3038f153_z.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8264/8...192e510f_z.jpg I'm not the most patient painter, As you an see.. :D . |
Re: 67-72 4x4 Scaratchbuild
I came across this on a board surf. Man, what an awesome piece of art you've got there.
Can't wait to see the final, "final", look. I totally get the desire for perfection. As a kid my model cars had to be exact to the point of exhaustion. Great job Jeffro |

Hopefully this weekend I will have some updates, and if I can get busy, I may be able to finish it, but I'm not counting on it. And since I try to put pics up, because everyone likes pictures, heres one for your dartboards.. This is me.. a couple years ago. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2710/4...2229e264_z.jpg |

As for the truck, not anymore. It was one my dad built and sold (thanks to this website) It was a real nice truck. Someone in TX now owns it. |

My son needed a truck about 3 years ago, and I was ready for a change, after trucks all these years, (I'm ready for another, though) and he was using it at the time, and was headed to Arizona, so, I gave him a good deal and off it went, never to be seen again, which is best for me. This was my last truck, and right after I joined this site, I let it go. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8397/8...3ba0c4300f.jpg Anyway, I have spent the last 3 1/2 hours putting molding on one side and the marker lights. I am waiting on putting the mirrors and door handles on till after the windows go in, otherwise I will keep knocking them off like I do the vent window uprights. I've lost track of how many times I have reglued them in. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8115/8...e51a8971_z.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8262/8...ba9a5330_z.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8126/8...05984148_z.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8537/8...342609ff_z.jpg And its onlty the 2nd time I painted a bed to match the truck, I usually go flat black with a rough coating. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8115/8...450a7e65_z.jpg |
Re: 67-72 4x4 Scaratchbuild
Just a side note, the rear signal is up high. The molding is looking fantastic. Really loving following this build

I'm glad you're following my build, Thank you again. Does this look any better ? Plus I have to try making another front window, the 1st two haven't worked out so good. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8537/8...8b8eb050_c.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8401/8...090fc630_z.jpg |
Re: 67-72 4x4 Scaratchbuild
Looks real good. Grille and headlights are looking great as well.

1st, I know its not the best pic up above, but does the hitch bar look to big ? and 2nd, Actually, I'm looking for an opinion on the grille and headlights.. Should I make the horizontal pieces silver, kinda like the picture you have of the one above,or just leave it blacked out ? (maybe it hides a few boo boos) huummm.. just not sure at the moment. Info time.. If I don't finish this by this weekend, it will have to wait a few weeks. I'm headed to Phoenix in a few days to help my son get home, and the wife wants to check out the Grand Canyon again. (and if I go to the Grand Canyon again, I have to figure out if I have room to take this truck again. I will take some pics and make a video again since I did it 2 years ago at Discovery Point at the Canyon) :) http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8518/8...e2a9a3c2_c.jpg |
Re: 67-72 4x4 Scaratchbuild
Hitch mount looks real good. My opinion on the grille is definitely go to the silver. It may hide the imperfections in the grey/black, but the factory style silver grille and headlight buckets would just set it off.
Have fun on your trip! Looking forward to seeing the pics of the grand canyon! |
