Got the Big Block in!! Thanks to the help of my dad! It looks gooooooood! Sadly the headers wont fit my truck, so I'm probably gonna just run factory exhaust manifolds for now.

Sweet. Any plans for the big block or are you keeping it the way it is? When I start building my 454, the first thing I'm getting is aluminum heads.

I have 3:73 gears and a 700r4 in mine. The overdrive keeps the revs decent at 80mph, but a five speed would be fun to drive...

Yeah, if i 5 speed swap it, it will be later on down the road. I can't wait to get it running.

I decided to cut the coil springs on the front... Got it all the way pulled apart except for the ball joints couldn't get them... so that's gonna have to wait. I found out the the 454ss trucks had 5 lug 14 bolt rear ends... well my parts truck has a 14 bolt so.... gotta get some 5 lug axles and it will be going in the truck, and the 14 bolt is a limited slip with 3:73 so that's perfect. Right now its all about getting money to do the stuff though. I'm Trying to sell parts off my parts truck though.

Well I seen someones (TX Firefighter I think) steering wheel on here with a flowmaster sticker in the center.. I liked it so I had to steal the idea, specially since I'm going to be running dual 3 in/3out flowmasters on the truck ( They were free) P.S. Sorry about the crappy Cell-Phone Pic!

Re: "The Convict"

Finally cut 2 coils out of the coil springs this weekend, it was interesting. Because the springs were so tall and stiff in the first place you couldnt tell it had a BBC in it and it looked like it was lifted, so 2 coils lowered it 5 1/2 inches, I was very happy that the jack got stuck under the driver side LCA when we lowered it down! I'll be sure to upload pictures soon!

Re: "The Convict"

If you use the rear end out of the parts truck it will be a couple inches wider than the 73-87 rear ends. so you may not be able to use the same rims without tire rubbing issues. also for the rear end swap you will need to remove the stock spring and shock mounts and relocate them.

if cost is a concern it may be best to run what you have until you have saved up to swap new axles and brakes into the 14bolt with new rims and tires to match.

yes sir I know the rear end is wider, I will not be using the same wheels as I will be going 6 lug, and the brakes I aint worried about, I like the idea of the heavy duty drum brakes on the rear, I plan to run 16s or bigger anyways which will clear.

Truck is looking good. Does your truck have a 12 bolt under it or the 10 bolt, if it has the 12 bolt that should hold up fine to a "mild" Big Block on the street.

Re: "The Convict"

Well if you decide to use the 14 bolt let me know if you want to sell the wheels, I'm not to far from you, we may be able to do some trading around on some parts, I have some 6 lug 20s and I have a spare 12 bolt under one of my parts trucks, I have big plans but not enough budget to work on all of them lol

Finally cleaned the ole girl out.. im working on getting the closed chambered heads off the old 305 to trade for some bbc headers... Found a wiring harness, (thanks 2fat2fly), getting some other parts from my girlfriends grandpa.. I'm thinking it shouldnt be to long now til I fire it up!

Hankster 06-10-2014 04:47 PM

Re: "The Convict"

Pulled one of the heads off the old 305 and found out the dude didn't want to trade the heads for the headers.. But I'm glad I pulled the 305 apart.. The d*mn thing looks brand new on the inside, So I am going to throw it back together and find something to put it in. It has Flat Tops in it, and the heads are 14014416 heads they have 58cc chambers, 1.84/1.50 valves.. It should be a fun little motor to put in a s10! But that will wait til I get the BB going!

Well, got a few little updates, Decided to stay 5 lug. Going to trade my wheels for a squarebody 12 bolt and rallys, (thanks 2fat2fly) took the carpet out of my truck, luckily there was the factory rubber floor mat under the carpet! I also traded my big gumbo mirrors for a pair of the sport mirrors! Pictures to follow!
