Re: MY build thread...

is that a 4 inch carb spacer

shortbed70 03-23-2009 06:41 PM

Re: MY build thread...

It a 2" phenolic 4 hole spacer and a demon carb. The air cleaner hits the bottom of the cowl vent.

Well heres some small progress. I got my cab corners in yesterday and got one tacked on and the piece to the left I will have to make at work tomarrow and the piece of the floor that goes down behind it. Also got alittle paint removed to weld the bed side seam up but need another way to get down in the crack better, any ideas? Heres another option I'm thinking of on the motor.

Re: MY build thread...

What about running a cutting disc down the crack lightly....one of the really thin ones? I couldnt tell what you were using, wirebrush?
It would suck to do, but how about sand paper wrapped over a thin tool or piece of metal?

Re: MY build thread...

Yea I was using one of those dagar throwing things and I thought about paint stripper and wife brush by hand but the cutoof wheel might work too. I tried to make the panel to the left of the cab corner today but one of my bends didn't line up with cab and corner enough so I will make another tomarrow and my new miller helmet took a crap this morning so now it will be this weekend before I get it back. It was a great day and a monday at that. Good thing I have a few of my favorite beverages in the fridge...

Re: MY build thread...

shortbed70 are those the tabco cab corners?if so how do you like the fit and finish of the panel?on one truck i had i used the schott's old style cab corners(raw steel no edp coating)they look nice in the lower contour area that meets the lower rocker indentation, but were a pain where the lower edge welds to the inner rocker(lower lip was not stamped correctly.the black edp tawain made cab corners i have looked at and i am not impressed at all with the way the lower body contour is stamped.your cab corner looks great, especially the new piece you made.way to go man.thanks

Re: MY build thread...

I am very impressed about the fit and finish. As far as the bottom where the spotwelds are I had to make that piece in the first pic because PO didnt replace it. I had no problems lining up the body lines. Got off ebay for 33.00. I'm going to try do do the other side tomarrow. Thanks for the kind words and hopefully one day this build will take off and I can do more work but right now I'm into the detail metal replacement,JUST SAY NO TO RUST!!!

Re: MY build thread...

I'm not sure where the guy I bought them from got them but he was from arazona and they were tabco. Thanks I am trying to make sure this thing last as long as possible. I am getting to the point of seam sealing inside and epoxy priming the crap out of everything.

Re: MY build thread...

Looks good....And from the Paint and Body Section...I got to ask a few things....Is this door original....? Have you tried reaming the Upper and Lower Door hinges out..? < this may help with the Gap issue....And one more....I have found that if you was to add the round bar ( i prefer flat stock) to the cab instead of the door it will make life much easier....This goes for mudd work and metal finishing....I like to metal finish everything before mudd..Hope this may help you....

shortbed70 04-14-2009 07:34 PM

Re: MY build thread...

It will get metal finished before mudd for sure and I cant move the door back anymore the door tumbler hits the cab piller behind the striker plate. This is the original door also cause the base paint is the same as the rest of the truck now if it has been removed ???? I would think round on the cab would take more work to get it to "flow" into the old metal whewre on the door I weld both sides of the round stock and can adjust the gap by removing metal but no welds. And it is the same thickness as the door skin.

Not much to post lately but this weekend I will have some. Getting the door handle pocket patches fabbed up and ready to cut them out and put them in and got the back of the cab ready for epoxy just waiting to get some strainers and sticks from work tomarrow and hopefully I can get at least the back of the cab primed. This build would go alot quicker if I only had more money:lol::whine:
