Re: 68 longbed 5.3/4l60e
Is there certain years of trailblazer manifolds that fit? Or any 03-09 will work? And is 80 bucks free shipping a good price?

Re: 68 longbed 5.3/4l60e
The brown truck came today. Yay!! Brought me all the fuel system and some adapters for, stock gauges.
http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/v...a3bc6bd0a4.jpg http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/v...961d910d14.jpg I have a concern. The adapter above the oil filter doesn't look like the ones I've seen here that you guys have been tapping for the stock oil pressure gauge. Dose this mean that my engine had an oil cooler? And if it did where is the return port? how do I plug it? Did 2002 silverados with 5.3's come with oil coolers? http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/v...88c6ee4034.jpg |

Also, I think this is a C5 Vette style block off plate.... |
Re: 68 longbed 5.3/4l60e
So is there a return I need to plug somewhere?
I thought that only HD and other vehicles had oil coolers. Did they lie to me and say it was out of a silverado. I got it from a truck salvage yard so I wouldn't think it was from a car besides having a truck manifold. And the engine doesn't look altered. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 68 longbed 5.3/4l60e
Oh so this adapter or block off is not open. It looks like there was a line coming off of it but it is in deed closed. Ok thanks. I thought it was an open port that needed to be closed off or capped. And I need to find the return and cap it as well. But I don't. Thanks for clearing it up for me. Thanks.
Anybody know about the file gauges? Is there a way to adapt the new gauge to old sender? I've search but found only old pOsts. Trying not to change the sender I just installed. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 68 longbed 5.3/4l60e
Need some help with the new tank and sending unit.
I installed a brothers blazer tank and sending unit. Filled it about 4'gallons at home. Then drove to gas station and put 6 gallons in drove it around and then filled it. Like there is gas at gas cap level full. The gauge reads 7/8 full. When I accel it goes to 3/4. When I break it goes to full. So I drove it till it was 1/8 tank. Only got 120 miles. Knew I got bad gas mileage but not that bad. Filled the tank and it popped of at 10.4 gallons. Back to seeing fuel at the gas cap level. Still at 7/8 tank and 3/4 accel and full while breaking. I'm not to worried about the slosh but can you think of why it would be showing 1/8 tank with 10 gallons still in it. Blazer tanks are 21 gallons right so if At the second fill up I put 10 gallons in it there would have been 11 gallons still in it even though it showed 1/8. With the old tank E was E. it did go above full when I would fill the tank. when I installed the new tank and it didn't go above full I thought changing the sender fixed the problem but now I have a problem with E not being E. Grounded the tan wire and it went to just below E. tan wire open fuel needle goes to above full to about 3 o'clock position. Ay suggestions? Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: 68 longbed 5.3/4l60e
Ok, I'm a little confused. Does it read 1/8 full or 7/8 full? You said it both ways. You didn't bend the float arm installing it did you?

Re: 68 longbed 5.3/4l60e
When it's phisically full it reads 7/8.
When it read 1/8 of a tank I filled it and it only took 10 gallons. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 68 longbed 5.3/4l60e
How do I trouble shoot code P0122. Sensor a low voltage on my DbW.
Motor runs fine so far but the only code is P0122. No throttle response. Can this be oahmed out or what. How do i track this down. Is this problem only between the pedal and the TAC or can it be in the Barnes? I post a write up when it's in and running Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 68 longbed 5.3/4l60e
From throttle body to what? To tac? To pedal? To PCM? There is five wires coming out of the tps.
Engine starts awesome. Idols a little high but I'm not letting it run long enough to get out of high idle. I get the P0122 throttle/pedal position sensor A low voltage. With tac connected or not and with pedal connected or not. I'm hoping current performance did quality tests prior to sending the harness out. I'm enclined to think its a sensor on the engine to tac or pedal more than the harness. How do I check the tps? How do I check the pedal tps? Other than the P0122 code, can't wait to get this thing on the road. Thanks everyone for your help, really thanks. Mike Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 68 longbed 5.3/4l60e
Well I called current Perf today to ask if they might be able to give me some ideas on how to track the problem down. He looked up the program he flashed my comp with and asked the code it was throwing. I said P0122. He said that that was a DBC code and then said hmmm. "I guess I overlooked the the fact that your computer didn't match your harness, in the fact the harness was DBW and ECM was DBC so I need it back to build in the code for the DBW".
So I 2 day air ups the ECM back to current this morning. I sure hope they express ship it back. This is my daily driver and I need wheels. Tomorrow ill post up pics and a write up on the install. Thanks everyone for your help and advice. Mike Posted via Mobile Device |

I am surprised the throttle works at all with a DBC tune. Ive started them with my "test" F-body 0411 PCM & the throttle doesnt work. |
Re: 68 longbed 5.3/4l60e
It didn't work. It would start and idle. But no throttle response.

Re: 68 longbed 5.3/4l60e
I know of at least one configuration that dbw was available in '01...The 2001 GMC Sierra C3 which came factory with full time AWD and the 325hp/370tq 6.0L LQ4 vin "U" as I recall.....would guess that the '02 Sierra Denali was config the same way...probably '01 and '02 Yukon Denali's also. Caddy's all had LQ9 back then, and the AWD LQ9 Silverado SS didn't appear till '03?
I miss my C3 terribly! and BTW....one of the start up issues on my LSx swap was no throttle movement, just idle. Turned out to be a bad pedal assembly. |
Re: 68 longbed 5.3/4l60e
Well all in all the transplant went well. Major hiccup with the computer programming but it is being taken care of. Other hiccups like getting a shallow pan trans filter when I needed a deep pan, and other minor things expected from a conversion like this. All in all it went awsome.
Started Sunday morning around 9, pulling hood and front clip sheet metal. Pulling the old 350/th400 by noon. Before.... http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/v...b0a1c01a37.jpg http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/v...7f5136e721.jpg http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/v...1bf17f56cc.jpg After spending most of the afternoon cleaning and painting the crossmember trans tunnel and cab floor. I decided to test fit the new motor. To my surprise it went right in. No modification, no cursing, nothing. She just slipped right in so easily I didn't even need my wife to help out. One person job. After...... http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/v...d540727891.jpg http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/v...d495257736.jpghttp://i669.photobucket.com/albums/v...d86de10b49.jpg Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: 68 longbed 5.3/4l60e
With the engine and trans in place. I started on exhaust manifolds, fuel, trans lines, and power steering.
09 TBSS manifolds fit amazing. Plenty of clearance, no frame mods at all. Here is passenger side. Can't find the pics I took of drivers side but fit and clearance is the same. http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/v...db5212afba.jpg http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/v...273d014cca.jpg http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/v...d495257736.jpg May need to trim the frame just a bit for the A/C lines. But it won't be to much. http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/v...128533b9f7.jpg Walbro fuel pump and summit filter and SS lines. http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/v...86b2f36244.jpg Trans lines are the original lines. I used the adapters that were on the TH400. Routed them with Clarence for exhaust and then along the frame under the frame perches and under the A/C compressor. I'll need to Clarence and move the lines around a bit when I get the radiator in and trans lines hooked up to it. http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/v...c59f11ecf3.jpg http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/v...55330a8ebb.jpg For power steering I used the 2002 pressure line and the 68 flare nut. I cut the 02 flare fitting off straightened the line a bit and flared the new line. Worked like a charm. Sorry no pic at this time. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: 68 longbed 5.3/4l60e
i'd recommend swaping that fram filter for another better style filter

Re: 68 longbed 5.3/4l60e
Got the drive line shortened, balanced, carrier bearing replaced and a conversion u joint to get the 4l60e yoke to fit. Fits like a glove. Trans linkage is all stock 68. I took off the linkage arm that came with the 4l60e and bolted up the TH400 linkage. Works great. A tad close but i think it will work awesome. I can even reach 1st easily. Changed the filter on the trans changed the engine oil and filter. Filled the power steering. Then I got a little antsy and decided to try and start the engine. After flushing the fuel lines and getting pressure up I tapped the cranking signal wire. It turned over. :metal:Gave it a little longer of a tap and after turning over 3-4 times blammo, :metal:fired right up. Amazing this thing sat for 3-4 month before I got and it started first try and faster than my 350 ever did. NICE!! I hooked up the TAC and pedal and fired it again. No response. I hooked up my scanner and it had just two codes. MAF sensor code and P0122. The MAF wasn't hooked up so I wasn't worried. But without being able to let the engine run I moved on.
Time for the front sheet metal. http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/v...8a29705115.jpg http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/v...627d07676c.jpg http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/v...06dc7c7248.jpg Mounted the fuse and relay center to the fire wall next to the break booster. The TAC will be mounted just below and to the right of the fuse really center. http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/v...5862e7608c.jpg Moved the battery to the drivers side. Drilled the spot welds and reassembled it in mirror image of itself. Still need to take it out, finish weld it, cut off the original support bends and paint it. But I am really happy with it. http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/v...1af23069cd.jpg Test fit some suburban stock intake. The ducting is a little high ill have to see if it will work when I get the hood on. Not sure. The air box is a little odd shaped and I'm not sure it is gonna fit. May have to go with the spectra cold air intake I've seen many of you guys use. Really wanted the stock stuff to work cause I wanted to look as new stock as possible. Most of what is left is under dash wiring and the front clip harness. Gotta figure out what will stay and what will go. I think most of it will go. Mounted the 99 f body E fans to my 68 radiator and set it in place this morning. Plenty of room. I think it will work fine. I would have never got this far this fast without you guys, this site and the LS1tech site. Thanks a lot. More to come when I get off work Sunday and can get back at it. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: 68 longbed 5.3/4l60e
Fram filter cam on the motor from the junk yard. I'm using a bosh filter. Do you have a recommendation?
