The stock Gen III engine management system is one of the greatest EFI systems ever developed. GM could buy Holley with the money they spent developing their EFI.

Get the tuning right & You dont need it tuned ever again unless you change something & that's what HP Tuners & EFI Live is for.

Most/Good tuners dont charge full price after the first tune.

After i get mine tuned and set in i may get hptuner. It will ne nice to have. Makes it easyer to troubleshot issues and make adjustments if i change anything.

I'm thinking about using the stock pcm, but I don't know if i would take a chance with my computer and wiring harness. It looks like it has been sitting outside for a while.. Plus the holley you can go from e85 to gas and run meth injection and it will tune it's self... If i run a stock computer and harness i will have to take it and have it tuned and around here it's around $500 then if you buy the hp tuner or efi live that's another cost. How often do you have to tune the stock pcm? Will it adjust automatically when boost is applied?

Keep in mind the Holley stuff is fairly new, So......Little/No support other than Holley's tech line;) I dont have experience with the system your looking at....But I have taken several of their older Pro-Jection units off & thrown them in the trash.

People have been tuning the stock Gen III PCM for 13 years.

Quote from HP tuners website.....

2bar and 3bar Speed Density
Applications: 1998+ Gen3 V8 (Most Operating Systems)
The enhancement is designed for the serious forced induction enthusiast who is struggling to make the stock PCM do everything that is needed at the racetrack and is tired of using the various VCM "tricking" techniques during the tuning process. HP Tuners has spent months of in-house and external testing and development time, utilizing some of the worlds best forced induction tuning houses as beta testers to make sure the features meet the requirements for both supercharged and turbocharged applications.

The 2bar Speed Density enhancement includes:
- 2bar MAP support (calibration capability for 0-5V linear sensors)
- Retains 5 kPa resolution in non-boost regions (2bar pre 04/05)
- 5 kPa resolution in boost regions (2bar pre 04/05)
- 10 kPa resolution in boost regions (2bar and 3bar post 04/05)
- Secondary VE table not used (if applicable)
- New MAP referenced "Boost Enrich" table
- New openloop MAP threshold
- Dual (High and Low Octane) Spark table support
- Speed Density mode only
- VCM Scanner histogram automatically recognizes and adjusts for 2bar/3bar feature
- New 2bar/3bar MAP PID for VCM Scanner

I used to have the old projection back in the early 90's and i never had problems with it.... I've been doing a lot of research on yellowbullet, ls1tech and the turbo forums and it seams to be a great system. I've also heard the tech support is real good also... I'm still researching because it's alot of money

We don't agree on a lot of subjects, but we are on the same page with this. Gave me a chuckle, too. ;)

Well the old motor is going to hit the ground in the morning. I hope to buy a motor next week. The motor i am taking out is going in a guy i work withs corvette. He spun i think 4 bearings at the same time. That is amazing. It was a few rods and atleast one main.

Got the motor out with no issues. I love having a crane. Makes life so much easier. Delivered it to the buyer and now have money to order the motor I want.

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build

Well i tried to order my motor today but between my crappy bank account and junk paypal it sent flags up and stopped the transaction. So now my account for paypal is locked up. Makes me look like a creep to the seller i am sure. I called them and explaned the situation and they said they will hold the motor for me. So upset this pretty much put a damper on my whole day. I hope it is figured out tomorrow.

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build

I have them in my burb and they are a pain in the rear to get bolted to the frame mounts. May just be my old burb but the holes in the plates are 1/2 inch wider then the holes on the frame mounts.

Which ones did you have in your suburban? I had the sliders meant for 4wd and had no problems

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build

I have the sliders that I am sure are for 4x4 and they are a pain in the rear to get bolted to frame mounts. I could be my burb. 50/50 chance that is why I went with them on the truck. I am sure they will work
