very impressive work.looks like ive got to get my sh#t in gear

how tall do you think the roof will be on those 47's?
i think the roof of mine will be at about 10.5' on 54" vtreads.

love the truck, hoping to trailer mine down for one of the big mud
events down there next spring.:metal::metal:

That truck will be sweet when it is done. How hard was it to install the disc brake stuff on the rockwells? I am looking at buying a complete truck to use for a build of my own. Where can you buy aluminum 6 bolt wheels for these axles?

tallhoedude 07-04-2008 06:30 AM

Re: 72' Stepside 2 1/2 Rockwell Pond Truck

there are several options on disc brakes for the rockwells.from buying a
very simple bolt on kit to a fairly easy to make your own brackets
and piece together a set.
aluminium wheels are a little harder to find for rockwells.several places make steel wheels,or if youre gonna run tractor tires you can just make(or have made)your own centers.

we just got back from our family vacation. we had a great time in pigeon forge, tn. we went to dollywood. i was so impressed with the old time craftsmen there. wood, leather, glass, copper, sand casters, and even an old barn were they make old time wagons.

tallhoedude the truck is 6feet tall to the floor board with the 44's. i am not sure how tall it is to the roof. i hope to get the bed done in the next week and a half.

i got my 16 x 16 aluminum REAL RACING WHEELS from chuckstrucks.net . they were 300.00 each.

dieselwrencher i made the rear brakes from 84 toyota 4 x 4 front rotors and 4 piston calipers.

Thanks bighead. Did you use the factory drums on the front or did you do this on all 4 corners?

BIG HEAD 07-08-2008 06:57 PM

Re: 72' Stepside 2 1/2 Rockwell Pond Truck

the toyota style rotors that i have on the rear will not work on the front because of clearance between the hub and steer knuckle. i am not going to run front brakes at this time.

I Have Been Going Round And Round With My Motor Builder. I Did Not Use My Regular Guy Because He Told Me He Was Six Months Backed Up. So I Took It To Another Man That Came Recominded By Several People I Know. He Has Now Had My Parts For Ten Months. The Motor Is Close To Being Done. But Now The Man Is Going On Vacation For Two Weeks. So Buy The Time He Buttons It Up Brakes It In And Tunes It On The Dyno, I Am At Least Three Weeks Out. Why Is It That Few People Have Honor In Doing What They Say.

BIG HEAD, what wheels did you use? And where did you get em?

Re: 72' Stepside 2 1/2 Rockwell Pond Truck

16x16 REAL WHEELS FROM WWW.CHUCKSTRUCKS.NET

THEY WERE $300.00 EACH THEY ARE VERY LIGHT. YOU HAVE GOT TO DRILL YOUR OWN VALVE STEM HOLES. SO YOU CAN PUT THEM WERE YOU WANT THEM.

Thanks! I really enjoy the bed and it makes a great work bench/parts holder when I'm doing work too. The lift is made up of a little too much body lift but my transfer case gernaded recently so I'm taking this opportunity to move the engine forward a bit so I can get the body lift reduced down to about 1".
