Re: Where is my 60-66 Chevy or GMC vin number?
Ya that was the same thing I saw when I typed it in. I am sure that this cab did not come with this frame. I'm going replace the cab with one that is less rusted. But it would be nice to know what frame this is.
Thanks, Redline |
Re: Where is my 60-66 Chevy or GMC vin number?
So I found the VIN on the frame and this is what I came up with....
VIN S113673 Model Year 1961 Chassis (unknown code) Body Style Motor Home Series (unknown code) with optional 7800 GVW (1 ton) Plate Assembly Plant GMAD Detroit Sequential Number Any ideas???? |
Re: Where is my 60-66 Chevy or GMC vin number?
ok, I think that other # you found on your frame, was a part#, and a poduction date- 9-28-62, which would be right in the thick of 63's production.
you new # that you found, matvhes your vin, on the cab (I think the 3 is an 8), every thing else matches up. all the frame had for a code, was : the last digit of the production year the letter of the assembly plant the sequential # check out the pics in post #3, with the frame vin, and the 65 body tag. sand around in front of that s, and you should find a 3, I am 99% sure that yoour frame is the original for that cab. |
Re: Where is my 60-66 Chevy or GMC vin number?
Ok, sounds good.... its starting to make a little more since. Has anyone ever heard of a 3/4ton dually???
|
Re: Where is my 60-66 Chevy or GMC vin number?
So what about the 3 digit code on the door pilars between the door hinges?
I got a 001 on the left and a R72 on the right. Never noticed them untill I sanded over them today. |
Re: Where is my 60-66 Chevy or GMC vin number?
.... probably just a part #, you wouldn't believe all the stampings that you would find if you had your cab acid dipped....
pretty much every piece has a # stamped on it somewhere. |
Re: Where is my 60-66 Chevy or GMC vin number?
this might be a stupid guess i bet that frame is one of a bread or milk truck ...i have done that with a 65 that was killed in the rear ...bread truck 100.00 wrecked 65 c-10 250.00 ...i moved and still do lots of hay with it ...i will check mine to see if it could maybe be an unknown too...

Re: Where is my 60-66 Chevy or GMC vin number?
here's what I deciphered from www.6066gmc.org/ :
10=1/2 ton 02=127" wheelbase P= pontiac michigan assembly plant F= 64-66 model year* see the pharagraph below for more on the F code. 6261= sequential production # A=6000 pounds or less GVW *The series letter for 1964 to 1966 is "F". There was not any more major changes for this body style. But there was a series letter "E" used on some 1965 trucks (have not seen any yet) & "D" used on all inline engined 1966 trucks. More info has been found for "F" Series Trucks, GMC built truck in two plants from 1964 to 1966, the Pontiac Michigan plant & one of two plants in California, Oakland or Fremont. If your trucks vin shows "HF" it was built in the Oakland California plant which GMC shut down after the 1964 Model year, so all "HF" trucks are 1964. Production was moved to an ALL NEW plant built in Fremont California for 1965, so "ZF" trucks are 1965 or 1966. So here is a brake down of the series letters; N = 1960-1961, J = 1962, G = 1963, F =1964-1966, E = 1965, D = 1966 |

Re: Where is my 60-66 Chevy or GMC vin number?
help decode my vin lost in mind 1502ZF11071B
15---->1500 serise 02---->127'' wheel base Z----->Made in Fremont CA F----->1964-1966 11071---->Production line (this where im confused) B----->6,000-10,000 GVW class so far this is what i got.The only thing that im confused with is the 11071 production line, From the info i got from http://6066gmcguy.org/GMCID1.htm looking at the way bottum where it says GMC Truck Production Figures it shows for the production in 1966 there where only made 10,488 in Fremont CA i need all the help i can get to figure this one out. Thanks all u people that are in this forum for all the info and help.never though i would have this truck after grandfather in law past away never new anything about these trucks till i joined this site thanks. |
Re: Where is my 60-66 Chevy or GMC vin number?
The next group of numbers is the Serial number or unit built number, all series at all plants
started with Serial number 1001. For the 1966 year run, GMC started most series with Serial number 10,001, but some series not used in 1965 started with 1001. I have found that GMC had a lot of left over trucks from 1965 & they sold them NEW in 1966 as 1966 Models, this was done to rid the dealers of any older trucks still on the lot to make way for the NEW body Style coming in 1967. If you have a GMC "PF" or "ZF" series truck titled as a 1966, but the Serial number is lower then 10,000, it mite really be a 1965 model year truck. One way to tell is to check the engine for a spin-on oil filter, no spin-on filter, then it's a 1965. GMC swithed to the spin-on oil filter for the 1966 model year on V6 powered trucks. with that in mind...yours should be the 1171st built that year. |

Re: Where is my 60-66 Chevy or GMC vin number?
15---->1500 serise
02---->127'' wheel base Z----->Made in Fremont CA F----->1964-1966 11071---->Production line (this where im confused) **** production started with 10,001 in 1966, with that in mind yours was # 1071 to recieve a vin plate that year**** B----->6,000-10,000 GVW class |
Re: Where is my 60-66 Chevy or GMC vin number?
so if the production was 1071th then what was the purpose for 11071th being stamped to the vin plate kinda wired to think about.
