The ram assists are neat but not as trouble free and don't steer super easy from what i've been told. I have one on my 67 GMC 4x4 but that truck has never ran. If you have a true factory 4x4 ram assist, they are not easy to find and a member here would love to have yours if you do upgrade. His username is 67-72trucks and he's from Michigan.

Not sure on the axles but I know at least upgrading to the 71/72 disc brake equipped D44 HD is a common and simple one. Is there anything better about 73+?

maybe the brake sheilds... there thicker, one piece and dont bedn as easy or break. my dads k10 has a 77 k10 axle in it and it has really nice brake sheilds compared to 71 or 72. ( im not sure when they switched to these sheilds though. they could have still had them in 73 or 74.)

still dragging along on this truck. I did get more parts taken off the 68 k20 donor. Now I need to get selling some non needed parts to generate funds to make better progress.
