OK, the next step was to get it ready for paint. 'While we're there' we might as well go ahead and redo the front end. Here's some pics of the process some may call progress.

I definitely will. Thanks! Hope to have this thing back on the road this summer. :>) We'll see how it goes.

More unexpected money pits... had to have the frame straightened from an unknown incident. I guess thats what you can expect with a 42 year old truck. Here's the results. Oh, please note, the high front is due to lack of engine and transmission. It should sit pretty low once the heart is back in it.

Great looking progress pics. Your basically doing what has been done to mine already. Im going with a front roll pan as well though. I like your wiring idea. Been wondering how im going to do all mine. Good luck and Im subscribing to this thread. Oh and if your ever over the memphis way look me up. Oh and where did you get the Chrome tank inlet for the bed? I think im gonna do mine that way as well. Its one of the cleanest Ive seen.

Truck is looking great, keep at it. Like the tank, the fit is perfect. Thanks for the idea.

Ha, my front roll pan should be the next pics I post, I hope. Having the frame sectrioned in the front to shorten it enough for the front roll pan.

Same to you if you are ever in NW Arkansas.

The gas filler was purchased from The Hot Rod Company. Here's a direct link to the part: http://www.thehotrodcompany.com/shop...duct_id=351330

Thanks for all the compliments!

Well, not a lot to report lately, but I thought I'd post some pics of our engine as I last saw her. Soon to be a 383 Stroker. Another one of those "wasn't in the original build plan" plans.

What kind of progress have you made lately?

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

Well, I hope to post some pics later today. Just got my engine back from the machine shop. It's now a 383 stroker. Not much progress on the body based on mylast conversation with the body man. Trying to figure out his timeframe for completing it. Otherwise, ordered radiator and dual electric fan setup from a guy on Ebay and waiting for it to get here. Lots of waiting now, it seems. :>)

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

And our latest "surprise" is the driver's side bedside. Found out the previous owner did some lousy bodywork, and he worked at a body shop. I know where I won't be going EVER. About 1/2 to 3/4" of bondo followed by a layer of something that looks like graphite and then some plasticky resin type filler. No metal whatsoever. Bought a new bedside and plan to try to switch it out tonight. Unfortunately, it means two steps back because the rollpan is already welded in as well as my custom gas filler. Plus we have to repatch the bed stakes and side marker light hole. Ugh. Lessons learned.

Look at all the layers of work done on the front of the bedside. Geez!!

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

Great ideas on the tank and filler. Sorry bout the bedsides but it will be awesome when it's done. I know all too well about P/O's "repairs" I thought he'd welded up the old mirror holes only to find he'd caulked them (w/latex caulk) then bondo'd over them

es67chevy 07-23-2009 12:36 AM

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

Oh geez! At least I haven't found any caulk in mine yet.

Would love to give everyone updates on the truck, but at the moment we are still at a standstill. Bodyman has been tied up with other things so he hasn't made much progress. Keep hoping we'll see some progress one of these days, but so far no go. I think we've decided that if it's not done by end of Aug, we are going to see if we can find someone else. It went in on March 3rd. We have a ton of parts waiting to be installed just as soon as we get it back from paint. Can't wait.

Paint prison sucks....

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

Well, we finally just had to go get the truck after 6 months of it pretty much sitting. I took some shots of it with the few changes since March. Now we are out to find another body shop. Anyone know of any good ones in the Northwest Arkansas area that will take custom work? The majority of body shops I have talked to all want to do insurance work.

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

Sorry to hear about the problems...seems to be happening more and more...at least it's out of body shop prison now.

Consider a smaller shop with good reputation or work you can check out. The guy doing my work advertises on craigslist. He's a very good welder and his body work has looked good so far. He's got an eye for design so he actually cares how it comes out. I saw some of his custom bikes/tanks and that sold me on his skills. Plus, his rates are about a fourth of standard shops. And if I help him, he cuts the rates in half again :metal: Needless to say I am always over there working and helping. Both because I like to, I am learning, and It's cheaper

That's a pretty cool deal you fell into there. I would love to find someone like that!

But you are right, at least I do have my truck out of paint prison. It was a tough ordeal just to get him to give it back.
