Of course. No reason to set the damn machine up over and over again...lol
I'd be happy to do it too...
It'd be the closest thing I have to kids runnin around besides my dog.

Re: Wing or vent window rebuild

Good stuff Alan.

I had to do most of that when I got my truck, as the bottom pivot rod where the spring goes was broken off when I first got it. I had it welded back on, twice... since I wasn't sure which way that piece fit back on. That bottom rod has a stop on it, to make sure it only turns so far.

I now have the pieces to do the rubber around the vent windows and the rivets. Thanks a lot for taking the time to take photos of everything, I know how aggravating that can be sometimes.

That's not my dog. My dog would never use intravenous drugs.

I wonder how much interest there would be in someone to rebuild these and the '67-'87 ones also....maybe I need to start up a side gig......now that Alan has showed me how ;)

I still have to rebuild one more when I have time someday. I'll have to refer back to this to see how I did it. LOL

some things must be discovered... and are self explanatory.

Actually, once you realize that you have to bend the snot out of the vent window assembly to get the rubber to fit down in it, it goes pretty smoothly. Then you use a vise to crimp it back down.

The putting in the rivets part goes a lot faster if you have someone else to hold it.

Tomorrow I get to wrassle with the rubber and the big dance of wiggling it all back together inside the door.

For those of you that don't know me well, cussing is typically involved w/the first step ;) . This is usually followed by escalated cussing including extended rants that mention something about kicking some engineers arse.

I started the 'detailed' disassembly process & wanted to verify..... Is it better to remove the hinge-pivot rivet or the 2 smaller rivets that secure it to the frame?

PPG K38 primer and PPG single stage black and I taped off the latch plate and the chrome beads on the main channel.
Are the 'chrome beads' required specifically for anything or just 60's 'bling'? If they're not required, I'm thinking about removing them when I sand blast everything & leaving them off.

I looked at the pics of mine and I don't see any rivets that hold the pivot bracket to the frame. I will have to go out and look and verify it.

I don't think they serve a purpose other than bling.

I've been trying to describe in better detail (in my head) what it is I'm questioning.....

The bottom of the vent window pivots on a stud & spring that goes through the window frame. The upper pivot has a SS rivet that connects the vent window frame to the divider bar via a small bracket. That small bracket attaches to the divider bar w/two smaller rivets.

I'll post some pics tomorrow. The frames are out in the truck & it's raining again.
