Re: Anyone built the plastic model?
Mostly just posting for a bookmark. I've been a long time model kit builder, and have aways enjoyed the hobby. It's gotten me through many down times. Lately I have been collecting a lot of classic truck kits, some off of ebay and some of the repops sold now in hobby stores. I have both the '65 Stepside and '60 Fleetside waiting assembly, and I can't wait to get them started. There are a few links in here I didn't want to loose, so thanks a lot guys for the info.

Re: Anyone built the plastic model?
I want a long bed! anyone know of a 60-66 model with a long bed?
|
Re: Anyone built the plastic model?
The original promotional models and kits from the 60's were long beds. They come up on ebay all the time, but are not inexpensive. Here are a couple of examples, the first one is just a box, but frequently a complete kit can be found in that price range:
http://cgi.ebay.com/SMP-1960-Chevrol...item5ada8be595 http://cgi.ebay.com/1960-CHEVY-APACH...item5d2bb250dc The models produced as kits were made of styrene and normally don't warp. Early promotional models were made of some type of acetate, which can warp badly, so it's hard to find a decent original. Modelhaus made resin replica kits about 10 years ago, but the molds wore out and they dropped them. You might find one on ebay with enough searching. |

Re: Anyone built the plastic model?
Coincidentally I'm building one very similar. It's going to be metallic purple with fender skirts and a white interior and tonneau. Most of what I build represents what I would build in a real car or truck. After a while they get boring because they all have similar attributes. Once in a while it's fun to build something outlandish I find interesting but would likely never own in real life.

Re: Anyone built the plastic model?
I love the 60's custom style. I'm really starting to want to incorporate some of that into my real life '65 C-10 build.

Re: Anyone built the plastic model?
Cool Thread.
If I had found it sooner, I wouldn't have started this one: This guy made a replica of his truck: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=480199 http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...e/DSCN1866.jpg http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...6/DSCN1409.jpg |
Re: Anyone built the plastic model?

Re: Anyone built the plastic model?
I bought a 65 short step to try a few different paint schemes, much cheaper than painting your truck and then saying "that doesn't look like I thought it would" :o

Re: Anyone built the plastic model?
I ran across this on the web this guy makes them look real but they are models. Although I didn't see 60-66 pickups it's worth a look anyway here is the link...Vernski:mm:

Re: Anyone built the plastic model?
Yeah, me too.... That guy has some outstanding talent. Build me a nice '57 Bel Air ragtop and a '53 Chevy pickup, shrink me down, and I'm good to go.
