I know others have said it but that is a great color, certainly not one you see these done in often either.

Good job on getting it back together so far. I know picking up a partially done project can both be great starting point or a pain to figure out what PO has and hasn't done and if you need to redo bad work.

Re: '64 C-10 Stalled Project Rescue

Yeah, so far I think picking this truck up in the middle has been a plus. My last 4 projects have required full, bare metal paint jobs. This one may not be 100% perfect, but it's quite good and I don't have to wait for months to get it done.

Visited my my preferred exhaust shop today. The 2nd generation shop owner does all the custom work himself, and he knew exactly what this truck will need. Good exhaust work doesn't come cheap these days, but I doubt any other local shops would be any cheaper. So I will be getting on his wait list soon.

The exhaust is scheduled for early in the week following Thanksgiving. Will probably need to have it towed there, as I don't think I want to drive it all that way practically blowing flames out the bottom.

Going to try to get the wipers and hopefully seatbelts ordered and installed by then, so that I can drive it home (with a stop at DMV on the way) regardless of weather.

In the meanwhile, another load of parts arrived today. Notably a front bumper and set of hub caps. A few other odds and ends as well, like a new antenna and some sending units for the idiot lights.

The bumper is a pretty nice piece, being one of the new OER Premier line, which they claim is "show quality". Turns out it really is a pretty nice part, much heavier gauge metal than other repro bumpers I've seen, stout with little if any flex to it. Nice chroming with no visible finishing marks either.

Definitely committed to the "steelies with hub caps" look now.

Your truck is really taking shape and I like the addition of the chrome up front.

Thanks. The chrome look isn't right for everyone, but I think it works well with the green metallic on this truck. I'm pleased with the overall look so far, which is good since a lot of the appearance decisions were made by the PO before I took possession. All in all, he made some nice choices.

New 3-point belts and wipers are ordered. Wipers will be here in plenty of time before the exhaust work. Seatbelts are a 'maybe', as anything other than black are custom built, and I wanted to match the new carpet and seat upholstery that came uninstalled with the truck.

Sometimes the little things just make me smile...

Nice work. Your truck is coming along great. As others have mentioned, the green metallic is nice. Actually, I will be painting mine a lighter metallic green.

Re: '64 C-10 Stalled Project Rescue

Got the truck out of the garage today before the rain started, and took it for a short drive around the neighborhood. First time I've really driven it, before this all I've done is back it out and back in the garage.

Pretty pleased, verified that both the speedo and the odometer work (no idea on accuracy), and shifted through all 4 gears. Brakes work fine, although they require a really stout push. (Will either need power assist or a smaller-bore master.) Steering is pretty sloppy, I have a ton of play in the original steering box. That will also need to be addressed eventually.

New tires are also on the way, but I haven't ordered the new wheels yet, so they won't be going on the truck for a while.

Me too. Although—on this A833 overdrive 'box—I was hoping to find the same knob with this pattern:

Code:

    R  1  3
    |__|__|
      |  |
      2  OD

More new parts today. This picture shows the new wipers and inside mirror. Not seen is the new dome light, dimmer switch and pedal pads. Going to be installing the rear fender braces tomorrow.

Recent bits.
  • Spent some time fitting the running boards, which completes the main exterior appearance. Still need the new wheels, new bed wood, and a couple of small details on the exterior, but I'm just about done there.
  • Two of the four new tires arrived earlier this week. The other two are MIA, which is totally unsurprising to me since they were shipped FedEx Ground. (I rarely have any issues with other shipping outfits, but FedEx Ground manages to mess up about 1 out of every 3 inbound shipments for me in one way or another.) FedEx admits that they are lost, and a pair of replacement tires are being dispatched today or tomorrow. Not a critical delay, as I don't have the new wheels ordered yet.
  • New seatbelts have shipped. (Via UPS, thank goodness!) Should be here by middle of next week, which means I will have all of Thanksgiving weekend to get them installed. Or at least the driver's side at a minimum.
  • Then off for the exhaust work on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.
  • I have a list of parts I want to order soon, but I'm waiting to see what kind of Black Friday deals (if any) some of the vendors might offer.

The replacement pair of tires arrived today. Now I just need to get around to ordering and then painting the new wheels. The seatbelts are still scheduled to arrive Friday, so I should be able to get one or both installed over the weekend.

Other than that, I've been piddling around with some cleaning and detailing, since I'm pretty much out of parts to install. Still waiting to see if there's anything coming up for Black Friday sales that I need.

Pulled the trigger on a full array of power rack & pinion steering parts at 15% off from Performance Online. I wasn't planning on doing that conversion for a while yet, but the price was right to get it ordered now.

Two shipments arrived today. First was a replacement ash tray. The truck came with a pre-painted face plate and handle for the ash tray, but the guts were MIA. I bought a used one from forum member @pdxhall. Took it apart, sanded, cleaned and painted it, then assembled it with the painted face I already had. It fills the hole in the dash nicely.

Passenger belt installed today. No issues, all looks good. The truck gets towed to the muffler shop tomorrow, with work to begin first thing Tuesday morning. I should pick it up either late afternoon Tuesday, or Wednesday morning.

The truck was delivered to the exhaust shop this afternoon, no drama. Got it on the rack and up in the air, and all looks good. Now I need to wait for him to call me when it's done.

Took a few fresh pictures while it was out of the garage and waiting for the flatbed. I really need to get the new wheels ordered, I can't wait to get those big things off.
