Core Support Repair. I did replace the damaged 68 Grille with a 67 Original and had it Powder Coated. Looks Great.

Re: Papaws Truck 68 Long Stepper

So after 10 mins of running the Cam was destroyed and many Lifters paid the price. Could be my fault, could be other issues. Oh, well but, I am building a new 350 with a roller and it should be done this weekend with Pics.

Again,
This is over a year time frame with me having to keep Cancer in check, do family stuff and take a break every now and then. There are over 400 pics and I went through every part very meticulously. I have no idea how many hours is in this build. I do have a parts list of where the money went.

Final things are to get the Engine going, align it, Powder Coat the wheels and find some nice GMC Hubcaps. Keeping the White Walls going for now.

For those who followed my other builds I can say that the Motor Home is in line for this year to finish.

Thank you.

Doing a build like this helps me keep my mind centered... Me and the wife are going to drive this one back to the area I dragged it out of and take some pics. It is a good truck.

Building the new 350. I will say that Cam Button End Play makes no sense to me and takes longer to set up than building a 12 Bolt from scratch. This Hydraulic Roller is a pain and when you get something done, you get to add more parts...Hope it does end up being a great upgrade....

Re: Papaws Truck 68 Long Stepper

After digging a while to see why the oil pan was leaking I found the answer.

There are multiple oil pans for the SBC and the original pan I had, had a 2-1/4 drop on the oil pan lip that goes around the timing cover. New pans have a 2-3/8 drop. The pan gasket I used was for the 2-1/4. Yep, that will cause a leak every time..... The part number for the pan that I ordered was supposed to be a replacement on a 72 SBC pan.

So for those wondering about there pans. Put a straight edge across the top side rails of the pan and measure to the bottom of the curve for the timing cover. If you are using the Felpro 1 piece gasket here are the part numbers depending on your pan. I would tell you to also add some RTV to the top and bottom of the curved seals.

2-1/4 Pan OS34509T or 1885
2-3/8 Pan OS34510T
