Re: My New Truck
Good choice on the wheels. Good work on the hubcaps. The truck looks great. It's cool that it shines up so well.

Re: My New Truck
I love this truck....:metal:

Re: My New Truck
Thanks everybody for the compliments!
My late father would appreciate them since he was more about the “Factory Look” than anything custom. |

The "new" grill I just installed, after I did a complete rebuild and restoration on it.
I think the 75-76 grill is one of the best looking grills GM made and of course NOBODY re pops them. Grill came out of a salvage yard and had the typical break near the hood handle (release). It looked really bad but I got it for a decent price. Chrome stripes will be added soon. I scored a really nice set of chrome stripes, off of partsvoice.com for less than 1/2 what they are going for on ebay. |

Here's what I started with on the grill. Fifthly dirty, wasps nests all over on it.

Came across some old pictures when we got the truck in 1975. The owner had just moved in from Petaluma, California (This owner who sold this truck was going to start using it to commute into Denver some 30-40 miles each way). He indicated it didn't get very good fuel mileage thus that didn't make much sense to use it as a commuter. So my Father and he worked out a Deal. Been in the family ever since.

Then some pictures when it was used for CAMPER BOAT service, under our ownership. I hated the camper on it (drove terrible-swaying and leaning-plus NO VISIBILITY)

Re: My New Truck
cool pic's!

Re: My New Truck
Having those pictures of your truck's history with your family is exceedingly cool. We have a few bits and pieces of our Suburbans in photos over the years but the rigs are long gone.

Of course these trucks were notorious rust, fortunately, when the weather got bad this truck sat and stayed parked. Thus it didn't get the cancer so many got! |

Ok, the 8000 RPM tach install is officially under way. Many thanks to fellow member cdub2010 for lending me a hand in helping get these faces made up.
cdub2010 was super helpful, in getting started by stating lets give it a try and print them up and see if we can make this work. So we are in the thick of it. Now to tweak the tach face a little. |

Here is the Summit Racing tach I purchased to install behind the fuel gauge as the new tach face. Then with the Bosch tach face removed. Mock up of Bosch tach on the Fuel gauge.

Ok in going through my gauges (1973) I have come across what I would call an anomaly. My temp gauge looks like this, it goes from 100 to 250. Yet every other 1973 temp gauge looks like the C/ H temp gauge seen in the bottom photo. The font (of the 100-250 gauge) matches my trucks other gauges and it DOES NOT match the font of the newer trucks, plus we have owned the truck since it was 2 years old and the gauge cluster has never been apart.
Has anybody else seen a stock 1973 temp gauge going from 100 to 250? All other gauges in the truck match the other 1973 gauge clusters I have seen. |

Gauges by years. This is what they came with.
They interchange. MY 81 currently has a #2 style since I had it and it was working |

My 73 has numbers just like yours.

Re: My New Truck
FWIW- my '74 has the C/H gauge. I'm the second owner and PO didn't change or update anything before I got it.
Per the GM parts catalog '73 temp guage is # 6490371 and 74-78 used #6490792 which would explain the differences. The copy of the parts book I have only goes to '78. |
Re: My New Truck
I came over to check on your progress. I loved the Grille Restoration video. You did an awesome job on that! :metal:
