Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
Get some LED's for tail lights, LMC has them cheap and direct bolt in, will look good and they dont require any flasher upgrade.

nice project one thing I would do is change that plastic gas filter to a metal one. I just did this because I read that they're prone to leak, and our's was. Good luck on your build.

Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
hey yall, not much has gone on lately, i got my heater fixed and got the truck running right, my carb wasnt tuned very well. So last night i almost lost my truck, thats right, it was almost burnt to the ground. we were under the hood with the motor running whenever i decided to take a step back, i look up and my enterior was completely full of smoke! I opened the door and ripped the wiring out to my radio (under seat).... the culprit? I had taken the radio speakers out and had forgotten to do something with the wires, they touched the bare metal floor, ground out, and melted every bit of the speaker wire, so i had black gooey melted insulation burnt to my hand... not a good night.

Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
wow, glad you caught it in time. Your hands okay?
|
Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
oh yeah, i just have some gnarly lines burnt in my palm, it looks pretty cool though!
|
Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
Nice progress! Sucks to hear about your little fire, but atleast you got it put out!
|
Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
hey just thought id give a little update, the 70 is running great, ive put quite a few miles on it with no problems, I recently lowered the truck 3 inches and painted my steelies satin black to match the body, the truck gets alot of looks now! 2 things that need addressing though,
1. the drum brakes suck... need to do something about them.. 2. I dont like my double pumper carb, it likes to flood out and piss me off. I really would love to have the driveability of TBI, maybe a swap is in order? decisions decisions.... |
Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
I'd try a different single pump carb before I leaped into a TBI swap.
|
Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
ill trade you my double pump! But really, carb issues are gettin anooying. i just tried to drive the truck and it is flooding so bad it dies. gas is just pouring into the carb. ugh

Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
Your truck looks great! What's up with it "not running right" Maybe we can help?
|
Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
well I have a summit brand, 600 cfm double pumper carb, I bought it new last christmas. I put around 1000 miles on it no problem, but then it started acting up. sometimes the rear floats flood, sometimes its the front. ive repeatedly adjusted it, even torn it apart and cleaned it. It still wont stop flooding. verrry frustrating!

Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
Hey dude nice truck you got there! Man, I'm in the same boat you are in! I'm 17, operating on a budget trying to restore my Grandpa's old truck he gave me back when I was 13. Its a 1989 Silverado C1500 with a 350 and 700R4 tranny. Only has 122,690 miles on it. My granddad bought brand new back in '89.
And man, do I have memories of riding around with my grandparents in that old truck. My granddad passed away in November of 2007. Now, I have the truck. Shipped it all the way from Mississippi to Washington State! Heres the thread I made of my truck, has pics of it too in there: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=424169 So far, I've pulled some of the interior. Gonna get them recovered and i've done other maintanance to the engine. Just need to get it painted. Good luck on your truck dude! |
Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
I have a line on an edelbrock 1406, for 100 dollars. supposed to be fine, the guy just needs it gone. Should I try it out?

$100 sounds cheap enough for a known good carb. |
Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
I bought that edelbrock, and I also bought a holley pro-jection fuel injection kit. I then took apart my holley double pumper and cleaned it. there was trash in the needle i probably didnt get the first time. I think a fuel pressure regulator might help too, ill finish this thing up later and see what I find out.

But this is a learning time. And you seem to be doing well. At your age, I had a 75 Camaro, With rotted out quarters. Made new lower quarters out of sheet metal and a pop rivet gun, Bondo, and shot it with a rattle can. LOL Your off to a great start Spike:smoke: |
Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
thanks alot! the paint is valspar brand low gloss black tractor paint, from TSC (tractor supply company) 33 bucks a gallon, thinned it with xylene. worked great.

I've never sprayed a vehicle with rustoleum or valspar, But I do spray chassis
parts with rustoleum. I like the durability of it. Plus it's easy to touch it up. But here is another members truck(americanmus1e) sprayed with rustoleum. Here is were he posted it, It looks pretty good. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...62#post4285662 Spike:smoke: |
Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
Hey man, really like the truck! Looks tough. Any updates? Im in my last year of HS myself
|
Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
I would check inside your gas tank for the debris that are mucking up your carb. You do good work man!
|
Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
thanks alot everyone, I know my gas tank is screwed, im looking for a replacement for not alot of cash. I am thinking of placing a fuel cell inside my toolbox so it is concealed.... Hmmmm
updates... I took my edelbrock 1406 off and replaced with the holley double pumper originally on the truck, it had trash in the needle seats, keeping it open. It runs well now, My next project is gonna be exhaust. I have a set of heaaders that I am depating on putting on, I just dont know if I want to deal with the hassle, Ive heard headers are prone to blowing gaskets. I also want to put mufflers on the truck, I cant decide between 18 inch or 22 inch glasspacks, because I want to keep the old-school growl, just not quite as loud as the straights. |
Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
Beer keg :)
Too bad your not closer, when i finish my blazer tank swap (ever?) You could have it My glasspacks are loud as crap lol |
Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
lol my straight pipes are louder than hell. try to talk on the phone while goin 70? hah, good luck with that. Im leaning towards 22 inch glasspacks.
|
Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
haha I can talk on the phone and have a conversation with passneger but its really loud! no insulation just driving down the road in a soup can
|
Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
I know what you mean about no insulation, Im running bare metal floors! true hot rod style. All that carpet junk weighs its down, less speed. lol
|
Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
Its been awhile since anything has gone on with the 70, but I want to redo the suspension. I would like a quality drop kit, atleast 3 inches front and 4 inch rear, and ill need shocks. any ideas? My current cut springs have settled and ride like crap now. any suggestions are welcome

Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
that looks good, but i might have to get a little lower in the back. One day Ill paint my truck back white, yours looks slick.
|
Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
thanks. I used 4 inch coils in the back but it netted 5inches. The 5 inch coil would be perfect. I have decided I am happy as it sits tho.

Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics
