Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates
Hey Captainfab I am in need of one of your adapter plates for power steering. Do you also know where to get the splined end of the rag joint for the 71 power steering box? My 65 C10 is a smaller diameter than the 71. Also I would like to get the rag joint you showed to weld to my tube with the adapter plate.
Thanks Ronw435 |
Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates
So you need the steering box adapter plate and the tube and flange? I will send you a PM with ordering and payment info.
You should be able to get the rag joint at your local auto parts supplier. If for some reason they can't get one for you Summit has them. http://www.summitracing.com/search/p...ing%20Couplers Quote:

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates
captainfab - I believe I need one of your power steering gear plates and tube and flange.
I have been reading the thread and see that there was comments of drilling 4 new holes for the plate, will I have to do that. I have a 66 c10 that already had the power steering gear and pump. When I swapped out the front end to a 79 I don't recall seeing a plate on there previously and since cant find it. Just curious if I will need to re-drill holes or if the plate will mount right up. |
Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates
You could use those same holes but that may or may not position the steering box in the correct location.
I will send you a PM with ordering and payment info. Quote:

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates
Installed Captains power steering plate yesterday. Followed instructions that came with it and it came out great. Great piece and great instructions Captain. Everything lined up perfect. Great to see people making quality parts in "America".
Thanks again Captainfab. |

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates
Thread diameter/pitch for '72 power steering box?
It's a masterpro, but Oreilly's doesn't list that information. Adapting to a GEN 3 5.3. |
Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates
They are 7/16"-14. I also replied to your PM regarding this.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates
OK......Between your posts and PM's to me and jumping between steering box and pump, It has all been confusing. At one point you said that the supplied hardware did not fit your steering box.
If you have a '72 steering box the hose fittings will be SAE. I don't remember the thread pitch off hand, but they are for a 3/8" inverted flare. To adapt those to a the Metric pump on your 5.3 you will either have to have custom hoses made with the appropriate fittings on each end, or you will need the SAE to Metric adapters at the steering box. Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates
FYI guys buying boxes from Oreilly's. I got one yesterday for a '72 and the mounting threads are 3/8-16.

Found a thread on adapting the 5.3 stuff to the older boxes. Looks like it's just a Gates fitting and then the factory 3/8 inverted flare lines. |
Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates
I checked a original '71 C20 steering box as well as a few 80's steering boxes and all have 7/16"-14 threads.
|
Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates
I exchanged it and my new one is 7/16-14 as well.
