Love the color choices and it came out great. I did the raptor on mine also and really like the way it came out. Steve

Thanks everyone for the compliments. I can’t wait to see it out in the sun. I’m color sanding today, then it goes back on the frame for the last time.

Cut and buff is neatly complete. May need to finesse a few spots then polish. Hopefully I’ll have it back on the frame this weekend :metal:

Update. When I last posted, I thought the cab almost finished. After the cut and buff it became obvious I had experienced solvent pop. This means I have to redo most of the cab. :dohh: Temperature was too cold in the garage for the reducer/hardener I was using. That being said I put the suspension and frame back together and put the cab back on. I was hoping to install the engine for the last time, but left it out until the cab is redone. Had to play adult Tetris with the garage to get the daily driver back in for winter. That was a month ago. Got ready for winter & went hunting.

Motivation… a friend came across 10 of these 1” rough cut curly maple. So all the wood will be redone! Why not, but you can’t beat the price.

Today… back at it again. Thought I would start small. Just the steps. Different clear and different base reducer. I’m going to cut and buff Tuesday. If it looks ok, I’m going back to the cab.

Maybe you could find a rental spray booth to spray the cab. It would be cheaper than more paint supplies, not to mention the time.
Been there with solvent pop. Looked awesome till the next morning. Peeled it off in sheets like cellophane.

I took the old bumper and cut it up. Tried to make it fit, but everything I did looked terrible. So I’m going with the original bumper. It looks the best.

my .02 worth, this cut up bumper looks great, good job. As you can see from my front clip, I'm not a same as type person.

that sliver bumper is pretty sweet, maybe a touch narrowed and cut the frame back behind the chin sheet metal.

Some progress. I’ve decided to hold off painting until spring when I can have proper ventilation ( extensive painting that is, still priming some). I still have some prep work to do. Here’s the inner fenders bodyworked and now in primer. Ready for paint.

After everything is prepped I’m going to install a dod delete kit in the engine. I just had my new gmc 5.3L in the shop to have all 16 lifters replaced. One lifter collapsed and lost a cylinder. So replace it before it’s a problem. I Guess this means I get to put a cam in it… so why not an 6.2 cam. Easier to do now while it’s on an engine stand.

I’ve been working on the new bed wood. It took about a month. I received it as rough cut 1”. Here’s a few pictures of the results. Last picture is for comparison. It’s the pine I started with. I originally had stainless angle on inner fenders, but didn’t care for how it looked. So I went to 7 boards with a wider outer board. Clean cut, single board around the inner fender looks cleaner

Time to make exhaust tips. Borrowed a TIG welder from my brother. My first experience with such a beast. Three weeks of practice and I have one side welded. Just need to finish work the weld and polish everything. Than tackle the other side.

Re: My 56 build

that looks awesome. will you polish it or accent paint it? I would only worry about it getting hot and blistering the paint around it, especially if there is filler involved in the surrounding area. maybe use a thick gasket between it and the fender? will you use a flex pipe prior to the entry of the pipe to the bezel to keep possible rattles down

Plan is to polish all the stainless. That’s why I’m TIG welding… or tying too.. Not sure how I’m going to protect the paint to stainless contact. Some type of thermal gasket. Hoping I’d doesn’t get too hot. There is no direct contact between the exhaust and the tip. We’ll see. I’m hoping the exhaust doesn’t move too much either… but, I’ll find out. Everything I do is an experiment. :metal:

Re: My 56 build

you could look for some exhaust gasket sheet and cut your own
you could look for some silicone heat resistant gasket sheet and cut your own
I would opt for the silicone sheet personally
if you find the exhaust pipe shakes around and causes rattles you could use a flex pipe somewhere close to the exit and then clamp the pipe so it doesn't move so much with engine torque etc, or you could wrap the inside of the trim pieceor outside of the pipe that sits inside there with some silicone sheet
just some thoughts, you may not even have an issue with rattling so no use what iffing it to death first. haha. I would insulate the trim part though, paint ain't cheap

don't under estimate the amount of heat.

I notched the rear bumper on my 67 Tempest for tail pipes and now the chrome starting to discolor. just an FYI

Used a couple of engine stands to hold the box sides upright. Worked well. Second picture is after sealer.
