I scanned a brochure from the '70 truck show in Anaheim California.
No real idea.
I wasn't born yet

Re: GM Semis

Just checked in one of my Chevy books, dated 1970, and like I figured, the Single Axle, Tandem Axle, Extended Cab and Cab-Overs all have Detroits listed available, some 6-71's some 8-71's as well as the Cummins 230, 250, 270 and 335 in certain models.

...no fault of yours Kool.

By the way, that is Extended Hood, not "Extended Cab" as I mistakenly wrote above.

(Edit won't work after a certain time, lol)

About 12V-71's in the Astro 95/Titan 90: I was told they were a special order option '69 to '71, and became an RPO around 1972. Never a factory install in an MH or General, but it looks like it can be done!

Re: GM Semis

I've got pretty good yearly coverage on the brochures from GMC and Chevy, and I've never seen any listing for the MH 113" BBC conventional with V12. Typically, in that era, a engine upgrade would be installed in a distributer shop, so that full warranty would be in effect. Plus I have the sales data books for 1966 and 1974. The Astro with V-12 was officially Model # DP 9702 and had limited options for that year, only a 150" wheelbase according to my '74 sales data book . Noticed the weight listed with all liquids, but minimum fuel at about 16,500 lbs, plus or minus.

Without researching it, I believe the first year for the all new GMC General was 1977, but if I'm wrong, I'm sure the General experts out there will be jumping to correct it, lol.

Generals and Bison were class 8s and were built 77-88

Re: GM Semis

What I didn't like about the General, is that it "killed" off the GMC 9500 Long Nose. Still had a pretty good run of about 11 years though.

My Dad loved them. I thought the cab/hood area killed them for me. Nothing flowed..

That is a lot of truck for the money.

I can't believe CA is starting to pick on older trucks on the road, if I am understanding it correctly. First I've ever heard of it.

That is unbelieve-able. Nothing like the state of CA devaluating and drivng down the prices of these old great trucks. Guys living on the border states must be getting some great deals.

Hopefully they are not picking on trucks that run Historic Plates.
