Re: Putnam

Well I have bought a few small parts that are on their way. Today I went out and started it up and it puffed a little smoke and then it could still be seen after a while. It was also smoking some the other day after I drove it home and let idle some when I got home. So I will be saving me some $ for this-

Mmmmmm...... smells like LS. I dig it! If those interior panels are good, the SEM vinyl dye works killer IF you follow the rules. Get 'em super clean and mist REALLY light coats on. Get it at your local car paint supplier. I like your truck.

I got a spare tire holder from Nathan (natedogg) and straightened it out. I'll clean and paint it later. I dove into the dash today. I removed the dash pad, radio which was fun, and installed a pioneer unit. Its much smaller than the original. I also got some front markers w/trim. Not happy with them. Cheap as hell. There are machine marks on the trim. China parts so what can you expect right?

Re: Putnam

I found that a bad front turn park light socket shorts out when the wiring is turned a certain way so I ordered a new one and some window sweep seals from LMC.

I got a couple pieces off of eBay. The under the column plastic piece and the metal piece too. My plastic piece was cracked and the metal piece had huge holes in it. My dash has a lot of holes (15) from microphone holders for radios I'm sure over the years. I have my work cut out for me. I want the interior to be nice as I'll be looking at it a lot.

This is such a neat little truck. I have to stay away from those auctions. I'd love to have that to run around in. Just checkin, you know you can get essentially the same motor without the distributor and intake, etc. for about a grand less. BTW, fine if you don't want to post it, but I am curious what a truck like that goes for at auction. Probably the best thing you could do here is tell me like 7000 and then I wont even THINK about it. OR, if I see one like it for less I will think I should buy it because it's such a good deal!

Re: Putnam

The auctions here go nuts with everything selling for stupid high amounts .But then again Im not in the market unless something is real cheap .I do know of a pretty nice 85 Chevy longbed for sale for $1000 if anyone close wants it ,no motor or trans but a nice looking truck.

Thanks. I don't mind saying what i paid for it. I was under the impression that it ran good, didn't smoke and the AC worked so I gave 2400 for it plus a 300 administration fee so 2700. I was disappointed when it didn't run, smoked and the AC didn't work. I am still looking around for motor options right now. It isn't smoking so much that I will get a ticket or anything but it does some a little.

Re: Putnam

My new socket for my turn signal and my outer window sweeps came in today. And a new power steering pressure hose. My power steering system has a few leaks. It is caked with grease. I have another gearbox thats a reman but I'll have to check to see if its the o ring type. SO hopefully my ps will be dry in the future.

I got the replacement dash pieces on. I'll eventually paint the rest of the dash the same color. I also put another GMC horn button on that looks better.

I got the speakers in. I used some leftover dynamat from Choncho to cover the back wall. Sounds great too.

Cool truck man. Are you going to keep the vintage markings on the doors?

I got the spare tire holder on. I know big whoop right?
But I did it after work so I felt like I did something. lol

Sorry for the bad pic. I also have found that I need a new tranny pan. I'll order one soon. An aluminum one with a nice thick lip.
