Used POR-15 today on the frontend as far as I could go. Will remove the cab soon. Needed to get something done. Also did the bed supports and part of the frame. Found a spot where someone welded the shock mount to the frame and it looks like a tear at the top of the frame where the mount is attached. So some welding will be involved.

Re: Project-GMC Slant Nose
you got a real nice start going there. I really like how the POR-15 layed down. did you brush it or spray it?

Re: Project-GMC Slant Nose
Hey Vince,
can you get por-15 at a store or do you have to buy it online? Dano |

Thanks. Im trying to get this part done before the rain comes. I brushed it on. Kept the brush wet, not loaded but just enough to lay it on. Once tacky, came back with a few more coats, still no brush marks. Quote:
Dano I purchased it at Classic Industries. Theres another place out here thats was at the Long Beach Swapmeet selling it. I would have to find their card. But it beats shipping charges. |

The frame has a tear near the shock mount. I have to cut all this off and replace the mount and part of the frame, unless I change over to trailling arms and coils.

Re: Project-GMC Slant Nose
Pretty sure 6ycl trucks (3OTT) came with 3:73 gears .. Not 100% sure.

Due to rain, muddy ground, and just plain being lazy I have not posted in a while.
Picked up a GMC grille just need to order the gmc eyebrows for the ends. Also decided to go with the 71-72 spindles since I have them already and can save a bit of money. Painted them cast iron grey and now thinking about the backing plate, black or silver. |
Re: Project-GMC Slant Nose
You will find that the top bar of the grille is wrong. It's 69-72 you need the smaller non chrome top

Re: Project-GMC Slant Nose
That POR15 looks good! I used it on my truck also, remember to not paint that stuff on anything that will be in direct sun light cause I don't believe it is UV resistant. Although they do make one that you can spray that is.
Can't wait to see your truck finished! Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Project-GMC Slant Nose
Hello,
I found your build thread and I like the way the POR-15 came out. I'm looking to do the same thing on my 69 step. I brought it to NY from UT and it is really a nice clean truck that I don't want to rust away. One question I have is did you use any of the cleaners or etchers first or did you just put it on the cleaned metal? Thanks, Jim |

Thanks Jim: Actually I cleaned the frame with their degresser, but any kind will do. Then I wire wheeled the frame to bare metal. Some say since its paint over rust I should just apply it. But I took mine down to the metal, and brushed it on. Thats why its smooth. If you paint over your rust, it will be shiny but lumpy. |
Re: Project-GMC Slant Nose
hey guy I'am telling you this from experence. The 67/68 tie rods will not fit the 72 spendle. I had to change to the 72. The tie rods are larger on the 72. I had to change the tie rods and the drag bar. I see that your truck is the same as mine a power steering.
also the 67/68 ball joints will not fit the 72 spendles. I had to get the 72 ball joints also. |

Its been awhile since I last posted, but I added 2 1/2 inch drop spindles on my 69 C-10 so I will used the 73-87 stock spindles on slant nose. I dont plan on making it too low, so the stock height and lower coils will work out fine. Thanks again for the info. |
