Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures
Our truck just has an unpainted plywood floor and a satin black paint job so looks kind of like a work truck.
Figured if I went all out & did the "show quality" floor, then I couldnt throw all my junk in and use it as a truck anymore. So am contemplating getting a cover for the bed, and maybe carpetting out the bed floor & walls with marine carpet so that anything that goes in the back doesnt scratch anything, or get scratched. But Im thinking it may look at bit "ghetto" Your thoughts? |
Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures
great examples. I've been brainstorming on what to do with mine. PO removed the wood and dropped in metal.

Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures
Well I looked at some carpet and decided that some nice wood would be a better idea. Some native wood looks like about $200 for enough to do the deck, plus maybe another $100 for hardware and some varnishes.

Thanks man, Was Pine original wood ?
|
Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures
stock beds were pine wood, painted black
|
Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures
Ogre is correct. Southern yellow (hard) pine to be exact. They were painted black or body color. Never stained or clearcoated as many do today.

Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures
My 76 Stepside came new from the dealer with an orange painted floor, just like the body.

Whenever my dad changed the oil, he used it to coat the bed boards. So it was black.

I want my Wood bed to look nice
Any ideas on the type of wood I do need a Mat to cover it or something |
Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures
Never gonna haul anything, Oak, seal all sides, edges, ends, stain before you start. Urethane sealer, marine grade with UV protection, wet sand between coats, three or more times.

Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures
Well I'd like to have a nice Wood bed but haul things
|
Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures
High grade clear should handle most stuff, the rails are for things to slide on with out digging into the wood. A piece of scrap carpet upside down will do wonders if hauling most things, just be sure you tie it down as it will blow out. I even saw a bed liner blow out to a s10 one time at 70mph. If gravel, then add a heavy tarp before you load.

I took rough cut fir, planed down one side, then used a table saw to make the strip grooves. For a finish, I wanted the old aged patina look, so I acid etched the boards using a vinegar/muratic acid solution that had steel wool and some iron filings soaking in it for about a month in a glass jar................... Quick wipe on the boards with a shop cloth is all it took. Just reused the same old bed strips with a new bolt set that I "rusted" in the same solution........ good as old.
