Got 90% of the harness removed. I could not get the rest out beacuse the motor is kinda sitting on the pallet funny and trapping it. Should be able to get motor stand next week. I removed one valve cover and the intake to take a peek. Valve cover area looks real nice. The valves are nasty. I am thinking of removing the heads to clean them up and maybe put head studs in. May have them ported someware. Not sure yet. When i get the pan off i will make up my mind about removing the heads. That is atleast 500 bucks for gaskets and studs i did not want to spend.

I think i have my turbo selected. It is a tc78 from turbonetics. Have not made my mind up about ball bearing or not. I had a good conversation with a dealer and he says it is not nessary at this time. Would only help spool buy a few hundred rpm. But it will cost almost 370 more bucks. So i may skip it. I should be able to order it in a few weeks. Untell them my mouts came in and as soon as i get my poly mounts for the frame i will install motor for moc up of turbo exhaust pipes.

I got the motor in and it went very smooth. No mount issues like my burb had. Only issue i had was i did not notice my converter slid out and i tryed to bolt motor to trans and converter stopped spinning easy. Good thing i checked that when i was bolting motor to trans. So i had to loosen the motor and push the converter back. After i got that figured out motor bolted up perfect. I have lots of room under the pan between the crossmember. But my origanl plan with turning the manifolds around and pipeing them to turbo is not going to work. There is no room between the motor and the frame. So it looks like i will have to use a log type manifold on passenger side and stock maniflod on driver side in normall possition and run it down and to the driver side log. Any ways here is the pics so far. The air filter is just temporary.

I ordered my turbo last night and it should be here in a week or so. I am looking for a fuel cell that will bolt in under the bed. does any one make such a thing?

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build

I would prefer a under bed one but have not found any for a 73-87. I went with a turbo cause they can be cheaper. Let me say Easyier to buy cause I only have to buy one thing at a time. Not 5-6 k all at onece

I'm wanting to boost my 5.3 as well. I'll be watching this. If you get anywhere near 15 lbs, that truck will haul nuts.

Turbonetics, can't go wrong with them. If you need more turbo info:http://www.theturboforums.com/forum.php There is very detailed turbo info and builds there.

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build

Not a hole lot has happened. I did get a car harness in a trade i will use for this. So i will now use a ls1/6 intake. That helps with finding injectors and fuel rails that can handle the fuel i will be flowing. Almost have the money for the manifolds too!

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build

How much fuel are you planning to flow? Mine ran pretty good with a single Bosch0411, single -6 feed, 60 lb/hr siemens, and a STOCK truck fuel rail.

85burb 02-15-2013 02:28 PM

Re: 85 lwb turbo 5.3 build

Not sure. I am planing on 60 pound injectors. -8 feed and -6 return.

15psi is halfway to 30 so you might as well just go to 30psi lol just to see how much power you can really make... =-p

Stock junkyard record is 996 to the wheels. That is stock block pistons rods even 799 stock heads.
