Well now with it all together, motor plate and limiters instead of motor mounts and inner frame supports, fluids in and air cleaner on I put it on the scales for a final weight of 3745. More I thought about it from last weigh in I did need to add a couple jugs of anti freeze plus 7qts of oil and 4AWG wire front to back to redo my alternator proper, vac pump plumbing, anyway it all added up fast.

I'm still happy with a 210lb reduction as 200 was my happy goal with 150 being my expectation for the project, leaning more towards a aluminum block once again LOL.

Repaired the truck, loaded it up headed to the track agin this weekend for points races, blew a trailer tire in the rain on the way in, got rained out. Bought a new tire so I'd have a spare again, stayed overnight and got rained out today also, headed home and unloaded it.

Another crappy weekend of non racing.

I bet there is around 80 to 100 lbs in the radiator support and fender wells. is the heater still in the truck? by the way i love those wheels..

Hey sailplane, where the hell you been?

Heater is long gone, still debating the inners, but not sure, just got back from a weekend of racing and sticky gravel from tires with traction compound everywhere, not sure if I'm into picking them off the intake. Might give it a try some weekend and see how bad it is.

I wish someone made a set of carbon fiber inner fenders for our trucks. It gets so nasty under the hood when running without inners.

well,

i have been working and paying bills. the wife is long graduated and the boys out of school also and has a good job. i took on the crazy project of rebuilding a fishing boat and its done now, i got to enjoy the heck out of it this spring. with the heat on now fish are not biting so i started cleaning the garage and am thinking of starting back on the old beater.. so hopefully i can stay interested in it and get with it.

love the front end. one question i have is what stops the the arms when the tires are hanging. is it the shocks or is there some sort of stop? the qa1s i have say not to let them be the limeter. so i need to figure this out before i go much further.

anyways love the set up.. did you get here to hook right the first time out?

They just hang on the shocks, I run AFCOs on the front not sure if they say not to use them as a limiter or not, I now went with a set of Strange doubles for the back and got rid of my QA1s. Running Hypercoil springs also on all four corners now.

I was racing it before the front and it hooked, I'm now tuning the new back shocks and springs, plus new size tires that are pure slicks vs DOTs I have always used, best 60' so far is a 1.39, might be a bit more in it with the 180 shot. Just plan on setting it up to run the low 10s for now.


On a side note after I busted my pinion yoke last time out, I replaced all the universals when out and looked the shaft over, but must have been a hairline crack around the weld on the tube I missed or couldn't see, first launch of the weekenf I pealed it clean off. Was able to be a shaft built and got it back in to make eliminations, no qualifying runs at all, threw a 10.25 on the window and ran a 10.28, but I slept so bad on the light that I could not run the slower guy down.

I have an aluminum core support. Mine is 23 pounds lighter than a stock steel support that was so rotted it did not have to be unbolted from the frame. It is double wall so it will be lightened more on the back side . The glass inner fenders save about 12 pounds all together. Again mine were really rotted and I paid 100 dollars for both glass inners. My current plan is to use Nascar hood props ( hinges) with a pin on hood. These hinges are less than a pound each, compared to 6pounds for single single gm hinge and spring. I checked today on a glass bumper, they say its 4.5 pounds. they say a steel bumper is 25 or 26 pounds. I have to get one so ill get a glass one. That is close to 70 pounds without the hood differance. You can get real lite with a chromo tube for a core support . It holds the lights and fenders and a radiator . Mine looks like a core support.

I know my exhaust is heavy but like running an exhaust, I'm going to a custom aluminum exhaust, I bet it will shave off 50lbs right there, also eventually going to an aluminum block, another 150lbs there.

Downside is I'm going to go to a 8.50 cert cage, and a anti roll bar in the back so adding weight in return. Might lose the inner fenders all together, even though not to keen on the extra under hood dirt that will add, so maybe glass is a better route for me.

i am realy thinking of mounting my radiator to the back bars of my cage. you no the ones that go down from the main hoop to the back of the frame, the radiator would set inside the box of the truck with some duct work runing to the ground so air would flow from under the truck and up. to do this i thought of using aluminum tubing run on the inside of the frame. so there would be no radiator or support up front. and the weight would be right in front of the rear tires. just don't no if this would be a legality issue or a heat issue. of course i would have to run fenderwell headers.

anyways just idea at the extreme.

Thats the plan on mine . My radiator is kind of big with 2 big fans . Its aluminum but heavy so I want it in the rear. I dont think drawing air will be that big of a deal because of the size of the fans. Alot of the turbo street cars run a smaller radiator in the rear and drive on the street. Wont be problem with rules , drag radial guys are doing it. I will have an aluminum bed cover , thinkin it need louvers to get hot air out also.

I decided against the rear radiator. as the tubes going back will add more weight..

im going to run 1 piece side glass using lexan. might be pricey though cause 1 piece dosnt make them in lexan so i might have to buy the kit then buy the lexan..

I have the same cam in a .030 over 427,with SRP 12-1 pistons,and Dart Pro 1 heads,310 cc,Vic jr intake and an 850 Holley hp carb,will let you know how mine works when complete, I hope it works as well as yours

Just an update from summer never got around to posting, inner fenders are gone and pulled the exhaust, but rest of planned upgrades were put on hold as I tore my rotator and had to have surgery on it in the summer so my season was ended before it really started.

I hate to here about you having surgery. Have you scaled the truck since the upgrades? I would make a core support you could definable save wait there.
