Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.
Thanks brotha! :metal: Hope your weekend went well. I know some of the happenings. haha!
Well...worked on crustine more today and FINALLY.....well..I think FINALLY found out whats causing my "Once in awhile rough running issues" It'll run fine and then sometimes it will idle like crap and want to die...turns out the old vacuum advance pump isn't moving a bit and only that particular style can be used on these engines. So Tuesday I'll be calling auto parts stores to see about either a new distributor or a new vacuum advance pump. Glad I found the problem and hope to have it fixed to...really wanting to drive this thing. Did drive it in the field and...yeah...she's woken up and grumpy. haha. Yep...also got the throttle linkage figured out...wasn't that hard...just extended it and welded it and walla. Pictures tomorrow and it ain't a pretty throttle linkage. lol So hopefully we'll be getting this electrical issue fixed and maybe finally be safely on the road. Later guys. :gmc2: |
Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.
Reset the points to .016 gap and that seemed to help Alot. Still have no vacuum advance but she seems to be just fine. New dizzy on its way.

Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.
Well would you believe I'll be entering this old HEAP..er...Crustine into a car show???? I was pleasantly surprised when I was explaining to the head guy what this truck was like and he said 'Come right in!' lol. So I'll be sprucing Crustine up a bit with some spare parts off my other truck. Little things to make her look a wee bit better, but not take that good ol farm truck look away. Pictures to come after the show this weekend. :gmc2:

Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.
Well....Another issue on Crustine that has Finally taken its toll is the Starter. If any of you watch my videos you'll notice that on a cold start I'll turn the key and get a loud click...and that's it. lol Then I take the cable off the battery...hook it back on and she turns over just fine...Ok...WAS working that way. Couple weeks ago(when I made the video-link below), I was experiencing more "clicking problems" then normal. Normally it would happen once....but this time it was two or three times. So Today I go to start the truck(its been sitting Almost 2 weeks) and all I keep getting is loud clicking...hit the starter with a hammer....still just clicking...so I took a volt meter to it...When the key was off my battery was a 12.52...key on....12.51....key in the start position .3045. LOL! SOMETHING wrong I think laddies!!! So I did the redneck start up.....using the handy ol screw driver and it cranked right over...SO its either my key switch...or some wiring..or the starter. Judging by how old and greasy the starter is I think its the problem...so I have one on order from Autozone. Couldn't go wrong getting one for $50! Heck that's cheaper than my 6 banger! I'll keep ya'alls posted! So poor ol Crustine is down.....maybe she's mad at me cause I've been devoting all my time to Two Tone.
