:( Looks like we lost another one. The Mill Fire in Weed (N. Cal), 4000 acres, 200+ structures.

First the home that is more important and then the old truck that must of been perfect for a classic .. what a shame for them people who lost both and others too.

I always liked those Citroen's. They were just so freakishly weird.

Charles De Gaulle liked them.

De Gaulle was being driven with his wife from the Elysee Palace to Orly Airport. 12 gunmen opened fire on the presidential Citroën DS. As History tells it, “A hail of 140 bullets, most of them coming from behind, killed two of the president’s motorcycle bodyguards, shattered the car’s rear window and punctured all four of its tires.” Other reports have said the bullets blew out two or three tires instead.

While it went into a skid at first, the car’s suspension kept it level and drivable, even without the aid of tires. De Gaulle’s driver managed to escape the situation, and the president and his wife made it to the airport unharmed.

The DS’ role in thwarting the attempt on his life made De Gaulle love the car even more. He refused to travel in anything else.

The DS takes a lickin and keeps on tickin.

Still weird looking. But I'd take one. Never know when of my ex wives may show up and I'll need a getaway car.

My mom's good friend is a serious Citroen nut. He is in his 90s now, but has a few and his two sons about my age carry it on. He lives up near my mom in the mountains and his sons come up most weekends to work on them. He has a big garage full in various forms. I've had the tour. He was an aircraft mechanic in the Air Force. I can see the attraction to these overdesigned exotic engineer's dream cars that were about as practical for the average person as owning an airplane. The company even ran itself bankrupt a few times rather than design simpler more affordable to build cars. And they did make one that rivals the VW Bug, the 2CV. That is the one my mom, who never drove, always said she loved. Of course, these guys have no interest in those. When I mentioned those simple basic cars they said, "Oh yeah, the 2CV". My mom goes down by Wash DC with him once a month to a Citroen Club meeting.

I really like the 2CVs. They made pickup and panel trucks, too. Also a Sahara model. These things were built from 1948 till 1990!

A '57, a '90, a pickup, a panel, and a '50 Sahara

If I remember correctly the 2CV's were designed to be able to drive through a plowed field or something like that.

Yep. One design objective given to the engineers was to be able to carry eggs across a plowed field. These things were the same as VWs, a gov't plan to bring the automobile to rural farmers to mobilize their market in the '30s. Another objective was to get 80 mpg! I could use one of these quirky panel trucks. You can keep the ones they offer today. These things were ahead of their time when you look at these teeny vans they have today. Only what you need, nothing more. Here ya go!

Later on they offered other models and in other markets they came up with their own models. There were even "fancy (???)" models and a 2dr. I say a coach-built 2dr convertible that looked cool. Stuff a Honda Civic motor in there and have yourself a real beast! They even had a Picasso model

It looks more like a Salvador Dali to me. They were both pretty out there.

That little car has an absolutely insane amount of suspension travel. They were economical but couldn't carry much.

But could they get a fat chick home from a bar? That is the question.

That might be a design parameter -- saving you from yourself by not being able to bring home a fat chick. ;)

It's all good if you have your beer googles on. I don't mean to bag on fat chicks. I like them. They are waaay better than the psycho lunatic hot chicks that won't go away. I've known a few of them and it didn't go well. I could tell a few stories about them. Too many and none of them are good.

Speaking of Deux Chevaux's. I used to read the meter at this guys house and he had real nice one. One day it had a for sale sign in it. I thought that's cool. I always liked that little car. But then I saw the price. $10.000.

Keep in mind that this was 1982. I had just bought a brand new Datsun pickup for $5858. It's funny how I remember that price. It was the first new car that I ever bought.

Say what you want about mini trucks but they were cheap, got good mileage, and you could beat the snot out of them. I lowered mine, put in a sliding rear window and a loud stereo and I was Joe Cool. :sexy: It was a cool truck and I commuted so I needed the mileage and reliability.

Then my first wife wrecked it. Thanks honey. Borrow my truck anytime.

I read they were designed to haul 150# of cargo. Just enough for a farmer to bring things to market in town. Simpler times.

I guess you couldn't bring all your friends along to town

That's what I figure. It's got the wheels and that would be an easy way to make it so long. I'm thinking the cab is widened

I'll just keep my meth lab looking Winnebago. It seems more comfortable than that. I don't crawl on my knees unless my wife is mad or I want to get promoted.
