Thanks for the compliment and the installed pics. :) Your truck looks good
Did you have to elongate the holes in the bracket any for the CPP booster to bolt up? |

Update---- after about 5000 miles , I was tired of the vacuum brakes with a cam and low vacuum and a hard pedal. I removed the vacuum booster and installed a hydro boost from a 94 Astro van. I may have also had a bad vacuum booster all along. The hydro boost pump works on the same bracket I bought from John two years ago, but a new linkage to the pedal was built to adapt things Wow! what a difference . It will stop the truck really quickly without locking up the tires and skidding. Much better now!!! Attachment 819547 |

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
hey captain, thanks for the brake booster bracket! i got it today, nicely packed and sealed, thanks again! i'll will be installing it once i get my hydro booster hoses! does anybody have a p/n for the hydro booster hoses? i seen the other hose kits going for just under $300!
|
Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
Thanks for the compliment :)
Have you tried hoses for a '73-'87 hydroboost? Of course fitment is going to depend on what engine you are running and which water pump if a small block. Do you have any business local that make hydraulic hoses? Quote:
|
Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
i will have to check into the 73-87 hydroboost hoses! i'm using a smallblock and long water pump! there's a napa here in town that i think will make the hoses, and theres a hydraulic shop about two blocks from napa! i'm still in the beginning process of it all and just trying to get some info. thanks for your input and once again thanks for the bracket! i'll be installing it tomorrow and updating my thread with a few other things!

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
NAPA made my hoses using 3000PSI hose and 3/8" compression fittings that they can crimp together.
The compression fitting works on both the existing steel line sets if you cut the old hoses off right next to the old crimp. The hydro boost uses metric O-ring and the gearbox and pump are flare. The compression fittings were about 10 bucks each ( need 4) and the hose was about 4 bucks a foot. |
Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
Will the brake booster bracket bolt onto my truck firewall without drilling any new holes. If so, will it be plenty strong. I have a 1963 chevy 1/ 2 ton pickup with four wheel drum brakes. Updating to disc brakes in the front. I have purchased the CPP power brake booster with master cylinder kit from Ecklers trucks. Will it adapt to it? Thanks Jim

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
Hey Cap,want to order a power booster bracket from you. Before I do,I wanted to know if your familiar with an MBM booster as this is the brand that my supplier sells. He tells me the 7" booster bolt pattern is 3 3/8 on center on all 4 studs on a zinc plated unit. The reason I ask is Im going with MBM stainless unit and want to make sure the bolt patterns dont change.MBM is closed till Monday,so if your not sure i can confirm with them then.
Thanks, Ed.:ito: Quote:

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
Hey Cap,I should also mention that I have eliminated the standard trans and am now using a 2 peed powerglide and am wondering if that will change the bracket needed. This may be a moog question however I like to cover al bases !
Thanks, Ed:ito: Quote:

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
The booster hole pattern is 3-3/8" x 3-1/2" as noted in post #1, so you will have to elongate the holes slightly.

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
The only way that could be an issue is if you are using a factory auto column, But since you are looking at a 7" booster, that shouldn't be an issue either way. With the larger boosters the trans shift rod can contact the booster when in park.

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
Thanks for the help. The final advise I may need is what and where for the pushrod. My original seems to have disappeared !Maybe I can the that from you as well ?
Send me a PM with all info to get the bracket and if possible, pushrod too. Let know. Thanks, Ed. Quote:

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
I'm not familar with the MBM boosters, but most of the universal aftermarket boosters have a threaded pushrod. If that is the case, then one of the universal booster pushrods from Speedway may work. You might ask MBM if they offer anything. I'll send you a PM.

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
Hello, I received the brake booster bracket for my 63 chevy truck today. Thanks! I'll be installing it this weekend. I am also wanting to put power steerring and air cinditioning on this truck, which will require me to move the alternator because I have a 292 6 cylinder. Any ideas? Thanks Jim

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
There is a guy on ebay that makes and sells PS and AC brackets for the Chevy I6 engines. They look to be well made.

I am going to be running your bracket with a factory auto column and the booster you specified in Post #1. Do you think the shift rod might hit in this configuration? The reason why I'm asking is that I haven't bought a booster yet. If it might hit, I'll look for a smaller booster. |
Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
On my '66 Suburban, I have a factory auto column. I am running a '72 Impala booster, and I had to trim a little off of the rod that goes down to the trans, and also I made a slight dimple in the booster for a little added clearence. I have not noticed any issues resulting from the dimple.
I don't remember for certain the diameter of the Impala booster, I will have to verify that. I believe the S10 boosters are a little smaller diameter. Quote:

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
The overall diameter of the '72 Impala booster on my Suburban is aprox 10.5". The '88-'98 full sized truck boosters are the same size.

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
Captainfab,
I'm planning to run a hydraulic clutch on my 66 K10, and I already have an 8" double diaphragm booster from CPP. Can you make one of these 63-66 brake booster adapter brackets with the back plate that will allow me to mount a clutch master cylinder similar to the way it is done on your 60-62? it looks like the 60-62 version would work with two additional holes drilled in the original master mount location. Let me know, thanks. |
Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
Yes that can be done. I have done a few in the past, but I don't currently have those parts in stock. I will need to order some parts laser cut for those, which will take about a week to get done. Let me know and I can get those ordered on Tuesday morning.

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
Captain,
Thanks for the confirmation that you can do the bracket. I might not be ready for it until next month. I'm planning the build right now and want to make sure i have everything covered. I will send you a PM when I am ready for it. |
Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
OK, just let me know. I think I am going to go ahead and get a couple of these cut next time I place and order in that thickness. So I should have the parts, when you decide.

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
Sorry, I finding this thread late, but your bracket looks so simple and slick. Why did GM make that crazy offset bracket with the linkage thingy on the factory booster setup? Were they trying to get room for V8 engine clearance or something? This looks like it will work great with my 6 cyl.
Please educate me on this point. |

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
I don't know the exact reason behind the angled mount, but I would say it was likely for clearance for the I6 air cleaner assembly. The trucks in the '67-'72 era with the I6's and power brakes, used an offset air cleaner. If you use this booster bracket in a truck with an I6, you can not use a centered stock style air cleaner. There is plenty of room for a straight mounted booster and a big block in these trucks.
