They sure made some great engines.

Re: Jimmy/Detroit Diesel Videos
Sweet screaming sound. Amazing how all that engine doesn't even hit 475hp. But will run restlessly like that all day long. Always a reminder of the tugboat and barge dockbuilding rig I worked on 25 years ago, that sound would actually put me to sleep sitting in the pilothouse when moving it to another site

Re: Jimmy/Detroit Diesel Videos
i started a Youtube channel. I'm so modern... not! Ain't much, but I have 3 shorties of a couple trucks at our ATHS chapter show in May. It would all be one video if I knew how to combine them.

Re: Jimmy/Detroit Diesel Videos
I remember that screaming sound from way back.
diesels don't sound like that anymore. |

Junkman3, Diesel Dan Renovetz, built a '70 C3500 pickup decades ago with a 4-53 I believe. He has run that thing all over the country. Recently did a restore on the body.
Attachment 1881943 Attachment 1881944 Attachment 1881945 I'd like to buy or build a Detroit powered truck myself. I think I'll stay in the medium duty range. Here is a beautiful Advance Design as well. It sits on an Isuzu or other Nippon medium straight rail chassis. He drives it to Macungie from, I believe, Ohio. That's what I want! EDIT: I see NJ plates, so I guess it got sold. Pretty sure the firts time I saw it it came from a greater distance, which impressed me |
Re: Jimmy/Detroit Diesel Videos
Nice shots of Dan's truck.
But we need a Video with Sound, lol. |

I fixed it for you.
A 20V-149. I believe it is the biggest Detroit ever made. Thanks for posting it. |
Re: Jimmy/Detroit Diesel Videos
'72 IH Fleetstar with a 6V-53 Detroit.
This truck has an interesting 5-Speed & 2-Speed Rear with an Air Shift: |
Re: Jimmy/Detroit Diesel Videos

Re: Jimmy/Detroit Diesel Videos
Hard to dislike this, really cool old bus. According t o that guy in the comments, you really gotta walk a thin edge with the way you treat these engines.

Cool truck.
Like the 4-Wheel chains. I could use that around here. I'm still on a Tractor, lol. (With a 2-53, coincidentally) |
Re: Jimmy/Detroit Diesel Videos
Here's a video about the 1959 John Deere Industrial line they don't show the whole video but they do talk a little bit about the General Motors "Jimmy Diesel Engine" that will be adapted to all John Deere 440 Diesel Industrial Tractors enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSCMiZCYNKo

Re: Jimmy/Detroit Diesel Videos
I love the 2-stroke Detroits. But something about those little 2-bangers makes me really want one of those the most, like I really have to have one!!
My neighbor (Billy) with the saw mill lets a friend (Fast Eddie) keep his trucks there on a lot by the road. He runs a dump truck and puts old stuff together out of hand me downs (junk) there. Right now there is a Diamond Reo flatbed w/knuckle boom and dual stacks. I'd wager that's a Detroit sitting there. I'll need to get in touch over that. Right now he runs an International and before that Autocar. He's building up a bit of a truck junk yard |

Re: Jimmy/Detroit Diesel Videos
Have we seen this one yet? An old Kenworth powered by 8v71 pulling a crusher?
|
Re: Jimmy/Detroit Diesel Videos
Tim, I saw that one night but didn't post it. Sure sounds great, but was disappointed to see that it needed a "pusher". That is a lot of weight though, lol.

Re: Jimmy/Detroit Diesel Videos
prob the grade up the road out of the pit was to much to overcome or leave him no real safety margin .
