Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
A couple days late but I was having computer problems...........
I made new holes at 1" and 1.5" back, I didn't even try it at 1" and went straight for 1.5" which is only .5" back from the original location due to everything moving forward 1" when I Zed the frame...... http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u...122_160243.jpg http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u...122_160311.jpg http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u...122_162443.jpg Enough room for the drivers side valve cover even...... http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u...122_162524.jpg |
Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
Sold my sectioned crossmember, going to make another one this week so I can move the uca mount back and the lca forward to gain caster. I am also going to make some motor mount stands to move the engine back another 1-1/2", it'll be 3" back from the axle center line and 2" back from stock.
I also got the doors, column and master cylinder removed, getting closer to starting the rust repair on the cab. Plus raise the trans tunnel and push the engine recess back 2" deeper into the firewall. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
cool post pics of the process on how you make the Xmember bro....

Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
Cutting another stock crossmember, but i'll try and get more pics this time.

Anything on this? I'm digging it.

Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
Thanks.
Unfortunately not lately, combination of the 2 months of triple digit temps and a lack of time, money and motivation. But I hope to get started on it again soon. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
Get to working on that front crossmember! And post lots of pics so I can copy it!

Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
Tryin to, working 55hrs a week doesn't leavemuch time or energy. But i'll get to it soon.
|
Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
any thing ? to far along to not finish now ?
|
Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
Haven't given up, just haven't been motivated nor really had the time to do much. I plan to get started again once it starts to warm up again. I have came up with a couple changes on how i'm doing some stuff, nothing to drastic though.

Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
I like what you are doing. This is going to sound like a broken record but i'm really digging the wheels. You mention they are Dodge. Are they spare wheels or something? I think i'm going to explore that route. What spacer/adapter did you use? My truck will only be dropped 2.5in in the front and 2in in the rear.
|
Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
The wheels are one of the things changing, just working out the details. The adapters are 1-1/4" thick, but I don't know who made them. And the rotors were redrilled to the dodge bolt circle, yeah they're dodge ram spare wheels.

Nice truck you have some nice fab skills I want to see this one done

Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
Still haven't gotten anything done, I have been off work all week but it was raining and cold until wednesday, yesterday being the first nice day since last saturday. Unfortunately I have to get may garage cleaned out and organized in order to get anything done, but i'm feeling the itch to do something again. Hope to have an update within the month.

Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC

a 5/7 drop. Here is a link for the wheels http://www.finishlinewheels.com/DODG...07/S-02166U45/ Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
Ok Thanx. Wasn't sure if the spacers were gna give it enough room in front of that body style truck. What size tires are you running. I like the stance of the truck.

Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
I'm running 245/45/20's. My avatar is a Photoshop done before I got my wheels. I gots to update that. Lol.

Mine has redrilled rotors and about 8" of drop in the front and so far no rubbing. But it's never been driven either, but I don't see any issues as these wheels have a good deal of backspacing. I currently have the same size tires as slammed427. |
Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
Cool thanks. Your truck looks good with those wheels. My truck did sit pretty low with the sbc 350 but after the all aluminum ls swap it sits a bit higher. Ill prolly try to find someone to redrill the rotors so I know I'll have the room. Are you able to run a wider tire in back??

Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
With the dodge wheels, i'd say you could run a 275/40 on the rear pretty easily and they'll be the same diameter as the original 235/75/15s were.

Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
Awesome thanx. You do great work

Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
Haven't done much to her lately, but I did throw together a 20X12" mock up wheel for the project. It's got 4 different bolt patterns, 6-1/4" of backspacing (which is not quite enough to work with my current setup). I cheated when I did the backside of the wheel, set it next to a 15" rally for size comparison.

Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
Glad to see your build is still going. It is one of my favorites.
|
Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
Thanks tiny, I haven't done much work on it except changing my mind on a few things and trying to redevelop my plans. I have sold the dodge wheels, except for the one pictured above. And have recently decided to do a truck arm rear suspension like the previous generation had.

Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
I know you havnt done anything on this lately but you need to

Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC

Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
I have done a couple small things since my last post, I'll try to get a couple pics up soon. I haven't done anything big though. I started working a second job last December so my spare time is low, plus I have a few things to fix on my daily before I can really get going again.
|
Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
Wow, it's been almost 4 years since I've updated this. I still have it, hasn't been parted out yet. I'm still working 2 jobs and have moved since I posted about it last. I unfortunately no longer have a garage so I sadly have no progress at this time. But I have been thinking about it a lot again here lately so maybe I'll get back on it sometime in the near future.

Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
As a fellow 74 owner, I hope you get her back on the road soon.

Re: "Sin-thia" My 74 GMC
