Re: Show me your 4x4 Suburbans!
I bought it out of the Cali high desert but it's in North Dakota now, been running the Cummins/NV5600 for about a year and a half. It looks a little different now:

Here's my '70 Suburban, bought it in 2005 and just now got it ready for the road. It has 33-12.50 rubber on it now, the tires on it in the picture were all different sizes though. I know the left rear was a 12-16.5 and the right was a 33-12.50, it was just to move it around the property. I'm going to put a 350 back in it later on when time allows and fix the air conditioning also. It used to have a Ramsey worm gear winch mounted in the bumper, but it was gone when I found the truck. I have one to put back in it once I get the bumpers cleaned up and painted. It does have some heavy rust in the spare tire well and rust around the roof that needs attention, the rockers and floor pans aren't too bad though.

Re: Show me your 4x4 Suburbans!
no pics yet, just got back on after about an 8 or 10?? year hiatus. I'm passing on the 71 original 4x4 burban (bad rust, were probably gonna turn it into a rat/beach ride)to my stepson to make room for the new 1970 burban ambulance that's getting swapped to 4x4. I got lucky on that one. super clean 51k original Oregon miles.
hopefully have pics of both SOON |
Re: Show me your 4x4 Suburbans!
I have driven a couple 1972 Suburbans, all 3 speed manuals in the floor, diesels. Very slow off the starting line! This was at a govt facility where speed wasn't a priority.
Ever since then, I've wanted one. My dream would be a factory 3/4 ton, 4x4, 4 speed manual 327, 396, or 402, with front and rear AC, power steering, and power assisted brakes. I like a bench seat up front. 3 row seating. I'm not sure which type of rear doors I like as I like them both. I'm a single guy so I'm not sure what use I'd have for it, but I do have a big driveway! And a love for the body style. Maybe next year! |

1972 K20 454 bored and stroked to 496-TH400-NP205-8600 GVW locker in rear. Just got it back from the bodyshop after new windshield + seal turned into $600 of new metal rust-o-ration around the pinch. All sealed up now and saving nickels and dimes for Vintage Air project next.

Re: Show me your 4x4 Suburbans!
Awesome burb you got there BK72BurB. What color is that burb ? Is that a 4 inch lift with 35's ?
|
Re: Show me your 4x4 Suburbans!
Yes, it's a 4" lift with 35x12.5x18. The color is White/Ochre/White according to the label in the glovebox

This is how the A/C delete belt configuration looks on an 8.1L. The L29 7.4L bracket belt routing is essentially the same. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7385/9...66b22bd2_b.jpg |

Great info, thank you! I plan on installing a Vintage Air Gen IV system in the not so distant future so likely letting the compressor spin until then.
BTW - I also have a '91 V2500 Suburban and totally dug reading the flickr build up on your '89. But, when I bought the '72 I made a deal with my wife to let the '91 go. So after 13 years of great service, it's looking for a new home |
Re: Show me your 4x4 Suburbans!
Good deal, if you’re going the vintage air route the compressor you have now (HT6) is the best A/C compressor GM ever used in my opinion. The HT6 will work great with the vintage air goodies as it is just as good, if not better, than the Sanden used in aftermarket A/C systems.
You’re selling a clean ’91 to build up a ’72? Ouch… I love the 67-72’s as much as the next guy but don’t think I could sacrifice a clean ’91 for one. Today’s 1991 is tomorrow’s classic Burb as the ’71 is now. Although, in CA there are lots of reasons to want to go with an older pre-emissions rig.…I get that. Either way you go, you will have a sweet burb! |

Yeah, to own two "end of an era" Suburban's is pretty cool but one big car too many in my driveway. The CA smog law factor is definately the reason I decided to make the switch. Latest CA laws now require I smog my 7.3 diesel Excursion...$50 every other year disappears from my wallet; smog tech starts it, performs a visual, checks my gas cap, revs it up, hands me an invoice...what a scam.

Was thinking of selling my K20 Burb. that I've had for 20 years. But on doing research on the value, I'm getting excited about it again. Thinking on keeping her.

Re: Show me your 4x4 Suburbans!
Wow, great clean example. Go with your gut...keep it!
