OH...while you're out there don't forget to bring that shortbed back for me:D

Yea, hopefully it will be low enough (if there is such a thing) once it all gets put together. And I am going to Appalachian up in Boone, not sure what I am gonna study yet tho. Probably snowboarding and girls for the first year :) I will be sure to take some pictures of the wood floor bed for you when I am out there

Here is the update for the day. I almost finished mounting the bags. I have to go to the parts house tomorrow and get straight valves, rather then the 90 degree ones, so I can run the line straight through the hole in the bottom of the frame and then they are complete. I also took a stab at some of the remaining patch work on the cab. I have to say, it is very frustrating welding such thin material but I eventually got it. I am taking the last extra pieces up to the powder coater tomorrow and that is probably going to be it before I leave for a week. Once I get back I will be able to bolt on the upper and lower a arms and the bed should be done at the body shop and I can give them the cab!! She is moving along slowly but surely:metal:

Got a little work done today on the truck. Finished mounting the bags, got the brake lines sorted out and made all of the lines (first time). I also threw a gear in the rear end to see how it would clear the cross member. Worked out pretty sweet, the housing slopes straight down right where it would hit the crossmember. I just need to flare the ends of the brake lines and put all of my fittings in. I am going in tomorrow to work on making the track bar mount and that will be it before I head out for a week to go to CA.

That looks nice Graham....what gear ya gonna run??...Also, probably missed it earlier, but what drivetrain too??:D.....you probably know this, but I assume you'll protect your air lines so they don't rub the frame....

Thanks guys. I am gonna run somewhere between a 3:30 to a 3:50 for a gear and I haven't decided on the drivetrain yet. And I didn't know about protecting the air lines from the frame?? How do I do that?

gcburdic 07-08-2011 10:15 PM

Re: 72 Cheyenne Super First Project

find some rubber hose that has a large enough inner diameter to fit around the outer diameter of the air line, cut it like 3-4" long, cut it length-wise to split it, then wrap it around the line where it may rub...maybe use ties to secure it in place

Thanks guys. Dad just lost his job on monday so things have been kinda stressful moving all of his stuff out of the shop and trying to find places to put all of it. My truck is gonna end up in the garage at the house so it'll be a little more challenging working on it. Should have some pictures of her in the new home either tonight or tomorrow.

Here is the update as of today. My frame got moved into the garage and all of the body is at the body shop getting worked on. I got the rear end that I am gonna run, minus the gear, and I got my disk brakes :))))))) (alcon racing brakes off of a nationwide car!!) I am waiting on some parts to come in the mail so I can put the front suspension together and then the motor will be going in. Here are some pictures of the brakes, I'm kinda excited about them:metal:

Re: 72 Cheyenne Super First Project

Hey guys, I haven't update the forum for a while so I thought I would fill in everyone on the progress of the build. I moved off to school on August 18th and I have only been home once since. My truck has sadly been neglected and the last time I was home she was sitting in the garage covered in Christmas boxes and all of the other crap that gets thrown in the garage. The last time I was home, I went to the body shop and all of the body work was done and the truck was in primer. I paid them and depleted my savings account. I just talked to my dad on the phone today and he said that things are slow at the body shop so he is gonna have them paint the bottom of the bed, the inside, bottom and back of the cab, the firewall, and the front of the bed so we can bolt those onto the frame and not have to mess with that anymore. I am going home Friday so I can take some pictures of the progress. I should have the cab and bed on the frame Saturday night so keep posted for pictures.

Got the truck from the body shop yesterday. Some spots turned out really nice and some not so much but for the price that they charged me I can't really complain. I have been trying to get as much little stuff done to her as I can seeing that I am leaving to go back to school this evening. Here are some pics of my progress thus far.

Here are some pictures of my progress. I have been home on break from school and I have been out in the garage every single night till at least midnight working on this girl. I am getting pretty excited but I still have a lot of work to go. As far as the interior goes I need to get my seat covered and installed, the steering column figured out, glove box door and ash tray painted, and the dash installed. That's about it for the interior. The only thing I have done to the exterior is run the tail light wiring harness and clean up the master cylinder and brake booster. I have about a billion pictures so here you go picture junkies :sexy:

Re: 72 Cheyenne Super First Project

Thanks guys. I'm back up at school now and I won't be home until Thanksgiving so I won't be able to work on her for a little over a month. Its killing me not being able to work on it every day. There's so much to do, haha. But hopefully when I'm home for turkey day I can throw the motor and trans in and get some more done. I think I am gonna have to toss out the rear end idea because the one I have in is way shorter then a stock rear end and that is gonna create some issues when it comes to wheels and tires. And if I toss that rear end then I am gonna have to toss the truck arms and my bags so I'm not sure what is gonna happen there. Hopefully I can keep everything and figure out a way to make it work without tearing to much up. Again thanks for the kind words everyone. Back to college life for me, I'll keep everyone updated when I make some progress.

Re: 72 Cheyenne Super First Project

I'm headed home on Friday for the weekend so I will be able to get some work done on the truck. My dad will be home this weekend so we are gonna try to get a cherry picker and throw the motor and trans in. Saturday I will be at the Goodguys show at the speedway all day drooling over other rides and selling parts with my dad, haha. If anyone else is going to be there let me know, I'd love to meet some board members!!

I had a quick question about my steering column. My column is originally out of a van so we had to shorten the shaft but the neutral safety switch hits the brake pedal housing forcing the steering wheel to be super close to the dash. Is there any way around this? I know that people have put van columns in these trucks before. Some pointers would be greatly appreciated.

I won't be out there till Saturday cause I have class Friday afternoon and won't be home till 5 on Friday. But I can let you know Saturday where we are at.

If you could hook me up with a deal on that housing I would be the happiest guy in the world. We are definitely gonna have to use a different one then what we have now. I was just checking out some of the pictures that I have and it is way shorter then the original housing. I'll shoot you a text so you have my number. And I'm not getting home till about 7 tomorrow and my dad is gonna be at the speedway all day so I'm gonna have a night alone with my truck :) I'll be at the speedway Saturday tho

Plans for tomorrow night: Go to the parts house and get a heater core, install the heater box, do that mod to the steering column and install the column, fix my brake pedal, and get the motor and trans bolted together. I need a cherry picker, which I don't have, to install the motor and trans so I am gonna have to wait till my dad's friend is home so I can borrow his. Which means another weekend:waah:

Thank you for the support. You have a beautiful truck yourself. Idk if I will be driving it by April but if you wanna come by the house and check it out, you are more then welcome:lol: But hopefully with the few extensive breaks that I have from school I can jam out some hard core speedy work on this thing. I have most of the parts, just need the time. Good to see another one of these trucks rollin around Mooresville!!!:chevy:
