Re: Grandpa’s 63 C10 build
Looks good J. You are right about primer...in my case, I paint see a dent and say...it's not a show truck, so I leave it. :) Of course I am not repainting my truck either...that is down the road...way down the road!
I know you are stoked to get the engine in! It is a HUGE moment in the restoration. Hope you are feeling well! |

I am good! Got my test results back yesterday, Negative! My work still holds to CDC guidelines and is keeping me away for the full 14 days. So I am home working on projects. I am the same way, this is no show truck. I do want it to look good but like I said from the beginning, I am no Chip Foose! Wish I had the transmission you put in yours. I just keep going back to what I have is already paid for. It should be fine. I hear good and bad on the NV3500. Guess if it grenades I will just replace it then. Hopefully it doesn’t tear up my truck if it does. |
Re: Grandpa’s 63 C10 build
I hear ya...I am not even Chip Foose's son! LOL
I had the NV4500 in mine. I just couldn't get over the granny gear in it. If I would have had the 3500 I would have kept it. I wanted a somewhat plug and play manual transmission and I like the one I bought, but I know it is probably overkill...we will see how often I actually use 6th gear, but there is a stretch of "highway" near my house that I travel almost daily that I will hopefully get to use it on. |

Re: Grandpa’s 63 C10 build
No, it was mechanical...I am using a mechanical on the new transmission also.

Re: Grandpa’s 63 C10 build
Looking good, dents appear over night when your done sanding.....You might consider using a guide coat, I wish I had on the long bed. I had about 12 dents and blemishes show up after the top coat was done. Not a show truck either, but I try to make it as nice as possible...hopefully you are back to normal routine soon.

Thanks for the tips guys. Appreciate all the help I can get. I have to say, this community of old GM owners reminds me of the good ol fashion people who just enjoy helping others out. Maybe one day we will meet on the road somewhere cruising our oldies! Posted via Mobile Device |

Well I didn’t know Fedex would deliver parts on Sunday but, I wasn’t going to complain when they showed up with my engine mounts! Got the engine in Sunday and pretty much have the wiring completed other than lights.
Got the grill pulled off and the headlights out. Start body work on the front end then get it bolted up. Getting the engine in was a big milestone! Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Grandpa’s 63 C10 build
I had a visit from FedEx on Sunday too. Surprised me as well. I guess that sort of makes up for them never showing up on the 1st and the 2nd even though the tracking showed my package on the truck for delivery.

Re: Grandpa’s 63 C10 build
Congrats getting the engine installed. Looks perfect. Take a few minutes and make sure your wire looms and other little hardware items are in place while the engine is easy to reach.

Re: Grandpa’s 63 C10 build
Looks great J! That's a big step. Did you like the POL motor mounts?
I'll reiterate what notsolo said...do everything you can in the engine bay you can before you start bolting fenders and the front end back on. Much easier to reach everything now with nothing in the way. |

It’s an honor to have my boy helping with the build. I laugh now because my daughter is now trying to compete with him for the truck. She always asks if I am going to work on her truck. Good to have their interest in it. Hope to get some more progress soon. Spent since Thursday up camping with the fam. Posted via Mobile Device |

Well I have been busy between work and projects at home. I haven’t accomplished much but I finally was able to get some more body work and then lay some more paint down.
My lines on my color break are not as crisp as I would like. Any tips here would be great. For some reason my white paint bled through the tape. I am using 3M tape that is supposed to be designed for this so I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I would like to figure this out before I paint the cab with the two tone. Re: Grandpa’s 63 C10 build
Welcome back J...I was wondering what happened to you! After you lay the tape down are you going back and pressing it down with a bondo squeegee or a credit card or your fingernail or anything? I always make sure I press down firmly before I paint. What 3M tape are you using? I think I use the green 3m tape for lines like that.

Re: Grandpa’s 63 C10 build
I use 3m fine line tape 3/8" then mask with blue tape and paper....Front end looks good....maybe some gold lettering, for Idaho.

Thanks guys. Yes I am using the green tape, I believe they call it fine line tape. I have been pushing it down but haven’t used a tool. I guess thinking back I was just pushing it down with my hands. I will try using a credit card. Thanks for the advice guys!
As far as the busy goes, I have been building a retaining wall around my so called daylight basement. Here is a pic of the hole I had to dig! Just got the footing poured yesterday. Next is the wall. Thanks again guys, love the support and advice. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Grandpa’s 63 C10 build
On your rad support where it's painted white can I suggest you put some flat or satin black just behind the grill like they do from the factory? I find it doesn't look good when you see color behind the grill. Keep up the good work!

Re: Grandpa’s 63 C10 build
J...Just read your build thread and first off hope the Covid has passed and all is well.
Your truck is looking awesome, what makes it even more special is that is a family truck which is really cool. Im looking forward to watching the rest of your build. |

Thanks man! I am hoping to make some progress here soon. I have a LMC package that should be here tomorrow. Doing this on a tight budget as most of us here are doing. I have really enjoyed all the support and advice from this forum. Thanks for following along. I can look for hours at everyone’s builds on here. Posted via Mobile Device |

Well tonight I got the front end bolted back on, brake master bolted and bench bled and a bunch of under hood parts painted. Still need to put some flat black behind the grill. Posted via Mobile Device |

I actually led grandpa's funeral procession to the cemetery with this truck. I know that might sound pretty redneck, but it meant a lot to the close family. |

Re: Grandpa’s 63 C10 build
Okay, I have seen some different posts on here about front fenders.... I ordered some because mine are shot. All I can say is wow! If a product sucks this bad you should do something to fix the issue! I am at a loss. Triplus absolutely sucks! They aren’t even the right length!
Anyone have any suggestions? Posted via Mobile Device |
