Is that a factory grill in the truck?
Or is it after market?

It is the original 63 grille but every 2nd segment cut out en re-trimmed to look like it was punched that way. I didnt do it, took me a while to realize what was done, i do like how it came out.
The chevrolet stampings has been closed up as well.

Another one done. Sadly not for the pick-up but hey, its still a inline six made to look at.
Pulled motor to do cyl head had valve seats not sealing and change freeze plugs, rear was dripping, some odd gaskets and then clean up and paint. 230 unit, marine cam, zero decked and balanced, weber 38 carb.
Refit over the weekend , still a couple things to do, need to get a filter and carb cleaner.
And yes its a front sump, its for my chevrolet commodore( relabeled opel commodore here in south africa)
Cheers.

Nice car. I like the color.
Cool engine build.
Good to see a 230 in a different setting. [Whats that in Liters? The 250 is 4.2, and the 292 is 4.8.]
I have one of those old peanut butter jar Accel Coils kicking around in my parts shed. [Gift from a pal.] Back in the day I ran a Mallory high volt coil on my 292. Before I got an L6 HEI. Worlds of difference. Are you using Points, or does your coil work with HEI?

Hi. 230 is 3.8L. I only have one 250 unit, the other inlines is 230s. I prefer the 230, but these cars is about 2600 to 2800lbs, so 230 works beautifull.
I had a hei in it but casing is broken, so i took a points dizzy and went magnetic trigger, module is behind the coil.
Color is *ord tractor blue, just one of those colors where black, or silver or white works good with it.

Cheers.
Adriaan.

OK. I get it. I had a Pertronix set up on my 292 for a while, but it would not tolerate the high [100*F+] Arizona summer heat. After running fine for years, all of a sudden, the whole system would black out over 3000 RPM/65 MPH. It would then be coldcranking down the freeway, until I shut off the Ignition, cut it back on, and pop started in 3rd or 4th gear.
I was so p!ssed I ran points for a year. Then I got a couple remote coil HEI distributor caps on ebay, and I was able to put an HEI distributor together.
GM had a similar light blue, called Corporate Blue.

Those pertronix points eliminators is priced high, close to those import hei dizzy. My friend had one, it quit after 4 yrs. Now he has an Import hei and so far good, we are giving it a try, i have one of those rochester monojet clones, 5 yrs now and from setting it when i fitted i havent touched it since,
This blue is close to corporate blue, just a hint of black added, what i had to paint motor, so i used some, but it looks nice.

Cheers.

The Car is beautiful, the engine is certainly optimal for the Opel,
they have become rare here too,
we ran them as the "Opel Rekord" we had one in the 80s.

Engine is enough for the car, runs good, the low rpm with cruising is what makes it nice, 60kph(38mph about) at 1500rpm in top gear and 120kph (75mph) at 3000rpm .

Over here we only had them as opels with 2.8cih for like 2yrs, then we had the e2 commodore with 3.0cih, the rekord we had with opel 2.0cih for many years, e1 and e2, later we had them with ohc engines. Labeled as chevrolet rekord with 2.3 engine, basically the 153 chevy 4 cyl with shorter stroke, as it was made here, only went to opel engines from late 1981 and opel badging from 1984. I am a opel fanatic, also have a senator a2 and a commodore c sedan. Also had a opel monza a1 but sold that so i could finish off my 63 c10.
My buddy has way more opels , his oldest opel is 1958 kapitan,

Cheers.

A snapshot from my youth.
It was the "D" record for us, but it already got the 2 liter engine from the successor,
the "E" record and had an automatic transmission,
which was nice to drive.

Here it was called a chevrolet 2500. If it had the 4 cyl. chevy 153 engine. The 3800 and 4100 was actually the commodore b but had the ( belguim ) ranger front headlights and chevy inline sixes. Great cars. Had one yrs ago, but i like the e model more.

Cheers.
Adriaan.
