Re: Putnam
I drained the tranny fluid tonight and the cork gasket just broke apart easily. I don't think it had been changed in a while. I'll put my new pan on with gray sealant only. I did that on my old 3/4 ton and it worked well.

Re: Putnam
Well my new tranny pan didn't fit like I thought it would. Turns out the front was not meeting up all the way and was leaving a small 1/16' gap. I modified the filter tube and it fits good now. Good thing I test fit it before putting the sealant on it. Its on and the sealant is curing. I am getting a new windshield put in Friday so I need to put my fluid in tomorrow evening.

Re: Putnam
Chuck, make sure you go through the gears before you add fluid (if you havent already). I bought a similar turbo 400 pan from Jegs. After I installed mine and filled it I couldn't get it to shift. The inside of pan wasn't machined enough so the selector was hitting it. I had to drain the fluid and pull the pan and file the inside area some more than it worked fine.
Hopefully you don't have this issue. Your truck is coming along great! Ray |
Re: Putnam
Ray, Thanks for the info. I filled it and took around the neighborhood. It did fine then. I'll get it up to speed tomorrow when I take it to get the windshield in. I noticed my battery/alternator light coming on and figured I would go ahead and change the alternator. It was making a chirping whiny sound but I figured I would run it till it stopped charging or got worse and well, it did. I got it at Oreilys and got it on quick.

And I forgot to mention that the truck is running much quieter now. Its amazing how much better it sounds with that noisy alt. gone. Im still thinking about my motor options.

I got the new windshield put in and put Putnam to work hauling two loads of my old deck wood.

Re: Putnam
It makes me happy when I get an email telling me there is an update on this thread.
Now it needs a pair of drop shackles in the back and cut one coil off of the front springs. Just a nice moderate drop to fatten up the look and not cost any real money. |
Re: Putnam
Putnam looks good working it .

Well, I have caved. I didn't like the holes showing on the doors and the small mirror was almost useless. so I got some mirrors from Advanced Auto parts. While pulling into the garage today my passenger mirror hit the side of the opening. They're so big lol.

Re: Putnam
Those mirrors look good ,I could have sold you one of those as I have one never opened ,LOL .
