Its beautiful, by the way.

If you plate the motor, I have heard that it will rattle your teeth. If not, the way you have it set up in the pics, your headers will get beat to a pulp. I imagine that you would have to raise the engine up a little, which can screw up your center of gravity.

Re: 50 Chevy Trck Chassis

hotrod1,
Thanks for the compliment and advice. There is about 3/8" air gap between the header drop tubes and the frame corner. I can imagine how a ridgid mount with a hearty cam would rock the boat. I wonder if anyone has any experience with the turn buckle type straps. I see you can get these with a semi soft (poly) base mount. This, I'm thinking would be the least invasive to the look he wants. Thanks for any help in advance.

never used those. Is this what u are talking about?\

If so, it would be better than smashing your headers.

Something similar to that without the chains. Talked to Renegade about some possible options. I think we're gonna take a shot at making something flange at the trans. Still would love to hear any other input.

Re: 50 Chevy Trck Chassis

We ran a turnbuckle on my brothers race car and never had any trouble.

One thing I noticed was the fuel line at the rear of the head....on my dads truck it is really tight between the head and firewall. Might want to double check that before you get to deep into it! I am interested on the header issue too because ours is tight too. I did add a little clearence but it is still tight!

You guys are doing a great job on it so far!!!!!Keep up the good work!

Bernie,
I'm glad to hear from that this is a viable option. Renegade has installed an aftermarket firewall with the central relief, so I'm hoping we will have plenty of clearance. I will check it for sure though today or tomorrow. Thanks for the help!

Bernie,
It had been a bit since I viewed your build thread and I had forgotten how similar the builds are. I felt real special having posted that we had an aftermarket firewall... of course it does. Sorry for the brain malfunction. I did check and you are right, it's gonna be close but the lines should clear. They dont come back any farther than the distributer and we know it will clear. I have a game plan on the straps I'll try to post something asap. Thanks for not barking me! Fab1

Re: 50 Chevy Trck Chassis

Hey no problem, plus I would never bark at anyone because I have made plenty of gafs during my life. It was just a suggestion because of what I have run into on our truck. I did set the motor back a little farther in our truck because I wanted a little more room up front. If I can help you in anyway let me know.

Hey Guys,

Check out these pics of some custom mid mount torque limiters for the transmission that Fab1 made.
We will add some installed pics later this weekend.

Fab1 will probably chime in and explain about these later.

We got alot done today. Fab1 polished the new torque limiters and mounted them. Check out the right angle drill with the stubby drill bit Fab1 used to drill the holes between the trans bell housing and the frame.
We got the main hard lines to the carbs plumbed, throttle spring mounted, rest of the fuel lines to the fogger solenoids.
We also got a plan for the shotgun scoop linkage, we will get it done sometime this week.

solidaxel,
Thanks! I hope they take care of the torque twist.

Re: 50 Chevy Trck Chassis

Those turned out really nice. How did you bolt them to the frame? Your chassis is boxed, correct? What did you do for a nut on the inside? Have you figured out what to do for the engine mounts?

Re: 50 Chevy Trck Chassis

hotrod1,
Thanks! We just drilled and tapped the frame. The force should be sheer on the bolts so we didn't figure it needed to be bolted through the frame. The driver's side mount will be reliant on the tab under the frame for the pulling force. We didn't plan on changing the biscuit mounts on the motor because the additional mounts on the transmission should keep it from rocking up and out of position. All in theory of course. Think it will work? Fab1

I am not sure. Those mounts are sure nice and should do the trick. I guess you will tell us. I think that we probably over engineer things anyways, at least I do.

Hey Guys,

Here are a few pics. We have not had much time to work on the truck in the past couple of weeks. We did get the carb linkage made. New custom hard lines to the PCV valves in the valve cover breathers. Fab1 made a linkage rod to match the other lines on the engine for the carb chokes.
I also made a nice straight linkage from the carbs to the butterflies in the shotgun scoop, and had it working great. The other night I take the dog out to take care of business and hear the buffer in my garage running.
I go out and find Fab1 finishing his version of the linkage for the buttrflies. I have to say I really like his linkage better. It really goes with the rest of the tubes he has fabricated for this engine.

What do you guys think?

Hopefully we will get some more done this weekend and post some more pics.

Hey Guys,

Here are a few pics from this past weekend.

Fab1 and I got the front end close on alignment.

We mounted the running boards again so we could do the final facing on the exhaust tips before removing the whole exhaust and taking them to the coating shop to be ceramic coated.
We also got the butterfies painted in black chrome and mounted in the scoop.

I will post more pictures after next week when we get the exhaust back from the coating shop.

Thanks,
Renegade

Hey guys,

We got the exhaust back from the coaters. It turned out great and looks awsome.
Also Fab1 and I decided to paint the valve covers along with the radiator support with the Prowler Orange Pearl that we are painting the truck.
I looked at alot of colors before deciding on this one.
Please check out the pics and let us know what you think.

Thanks,

Renegade
