Wow! $500?!

I got mine from Wait4me, I think I will try Nelson performance in SA, a custom tune is $300.00 and they mail order too.

Re: LS engine swap info

Thats list for a Wester's tune probably...Brian discounts the price, especially if he doesn't have to reference Westers data for your tune. Brian can also do a dyno tune....rather then a "bench" tune. I plan on taking my truck over to him to help dial in my combo when its complete. He's worked on my TBSS and it picked up like .4x to .5x in the 1/4.

Nelson is OK but Wait4me wouldn't be my 1st choice. You could also buy HPTuners or LS1edit and do it yourself?

Mine will be easier to tune I think. Just select the right curve for the MSD box and the rest is jets, air bleeds, and set screws....screwdriver work.

Which one? I have used both styles and ended up with the rod style over the cable style.

I got it figure out.... Finally found a pic. of it installed on the column. Where it is attached to the trans it is at quite an angle though..

Try Brian. He even has a dyno.

Exatorq

I have to agree. He seem like a good honest guy. Even did some work for me without charge that got me out of a bind. I shipped my PCM to him and he did a quick turn around.

I am using an ebay "E2000" pump <$50.
Just need the right fittings/clamp for the factory stuff to work

Re: LS engine swap info

I used a Pierburg Pump from Turn Key Engine supply.

Low_84, I would just save the $ and ship it to Nelson Performance, they will do you right. Not that there is anything wrong with Jesse, he is a really nice guy, it's just that Nelson Perf has a very good rep here and on LS1Tech/Ls1truck.

I went with Jesse and them, the work they did was fine for a stock tune, nothing more( all the stuff was eliminated and I wanted it on, like front O2's the CEL, and other sensors) the harness didnt look very clean at all. no instructions were with it at all. After 2-3 calls, I figured out what went where. Their communication is on the poor side though, very frustrating.

I DID get what I paid for.Knowing now what I know, I would get an after market harness and a perf tune. Try Fuel Injection Connection (FIC) for your harness, they quoted me $508 for the engine harness with 4l60e, all relays and such for fuel pump, ac and stuff.

If your putting your LSx in your 84, just get a tank from an 87 and put the Walbro 255 in it.

Hope this all helps.

Re: LS engine swap info

i have a question on the 4l60e,,,,apparently you "have" to have a speedo for the tranny to shift?? well here is the problem, my 84 has a broken analog speedo and i dont really want to deal with the speedo right now. i thought the computer shifted the transmission.

Clyde65 07-09-2010 09:58 AM

Re: LS engine swap info

You would need an electronic speedo, the truck will run and all without one, you will just be a target of Johnny Law without.

You can switch the tail housing out to a 700 ( or aftermarket) but I think that is expensive. You also can purchase an electronic speedo from many different guage companies, takes a bit to get them configured but it isnt all that bad.

The trans shifts the trans, the computer just monitors it and adjusts the rpm and or timing if needed, I really dont think it cares what the trans is doing.

Re: LS engine swap info

yeah, or i could use gps,,,hillbilly style,,i just want to get it on the road.

so where should i send it...to current or nelson..

current 450 for harness rework 175 for factory tune
nelson 450 for harness rework 150 for factory tune

one thing i like about current is there fuse/relay block they include

The computer has the trans tables in it, the PCM needs the VSS pulse to know what is going on but you do not need a speedo for this funtion to work. But if the trans and PCM do not get the info they need it will stay in limp home mode.

I have used both Lokar shifter setups. One is a cable style and I did not like it that much, was a PITA to set up. I am now using the rod style but it is limited, I can only go to 3rd gear with that shifter b/c of the angles just wont allow it.

As for what a company will do for you, why not contact them to find out!? that is the best source of info.

I'm sure this has been covered in another thread, but here's a reminder about oil pressure and water temp fittings. The metric-to-npt fittings are available at speedwaymotors.com. They might be found cheaper somewhere, but they shipped quick and fit perfect:
