Thanks I appreciate it. I got the bushings out of the frame and some of the leaf spring ones out no problem. But there are several that are a different design. They have a steel sleeve around them, and the inner sleeve has small teeth on the ends. I can't get them out. Any tips?

Thank you Randy, it's going a little slow but things are getting done. Now the big hurdle is I have to pack this thing up to move, then once I arrive tear it apart again to pick up where I left off. But it's fun so not a problem.

Not much to report at the moment. But my hubs came in so I was able to pull them apart, then strip the paint, and paint them to match the original hub color. Now from a distance they will look stock, and match the rear false hubs.

Hey Monte I have an original wheel and tire from a 72 K5 strait thread polyglass Maybe G78x15 I am not sure if that is what you are looking for. I believe it was the spare tire, barely used, it is in very good condition. Not as pristine as the ones you just painted, but I don't think there is any rust on it. would make a good OEM Spare tire for your project. Also if you are missing original pieces for your (Right off the assembly line) build you should post a wish list you never know how many pack rats are out there. I am working on a 2wd conversion and the donor K5 had some decent parts. Great work so far. .....Ed

Ed,
That would work great, if the back spacing is 4", the back spacing is the problem and the fact that nothing is close so shipping is a pain. I have been putting up want ads but one at a time so I can keep track of what I'm doing. Thank you for the help.

Monte, any idea if the color PC you used on the U joint yokes is close to the factory color for the driveshafts? I like that look. Curious if it's original-ish.

Re: '72 K5 Blazer CST = Yet another Build

The original drive shafts were black as far as I know, the only color I've ever seen on originals besides rust.

Re: '72 K5 Blazer CST = Yet another Build

A little bit of an update, right now I'm just putting the Blazer back together for the big move across the country. Once I get there then it will come apart again and I can finish the work on the chassis then get to the body. So a while back I said I was changing the direction of my build, nothing major. My change is that I will not be putting chrome bumpers on the front or back, they will be painted. I took an old set of beat up bumper guards, straightened them out, got NOS rubber from 72ironmike, straightened a chrome front bumper, and here are the pics of the final result. I also finally got a complete set of 5 wheels. Just picked up some 72 only extreme tow hooks and will get then coated before I head out. That is about it, so here are some pics of the progress.

Re: '72 K5 Blazer CST = Yet another Build

Well I finally have a moment to update my build. It was put back together for the trip across the country. It will be taken apart again to get back on track of how I want to do the work. So for the progress;

Put the rear axle together, it is done now so I will not have to open it up again until it's time to put new oil in it to start driving.

http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...IMG_0005-9.jpg
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...IMG_0008-4.jpg
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...IMG_0011-3.jpg
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...IMG_0014-3.jpg

Then the front axle.

http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...IMG_0013-1.jpg
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...IMG_0014-4.jpg
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...IMG_0015-4.jpg
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...IMG_0016-5.jpg

They went on the frame for the outer work and the body back on the frame.

http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...IMG_0009-4.jpg

Put the semi nice rollers on it.

http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...IMG_0018-1.jpg
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...IMG_0017-3.jpg

Then it was ready to roll into the trailer, in the back ground.

http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...T/IMG_0021.jpg

So now when I get it to the new garage I will start over, as far as having to pull it apart.

Re: '72 K5 Blazer CST = Yet another Build

For the last pic, my 2 babies rolling out of the driveway for the long trip.

http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...IMG_0025-1.jpg

So as far as the the chassis goes I have a change to my original plans. The springs ended up to soft for my liking, not surprising for 40 year old springs, so they will be replaced with new ones. I want to do 2.5" front and 4" rear springs for a modest lift but not to far from stock. Well that is it for now, will be a little time before I can get back to my Blazer, I have to get settled in the new house.

Re: '72 K5 Blazer CST = Yet another Build

Little update since the move. Still getting settled so no real work has been done, but the Blazer has found it's new spot for me to work on it. Still have to finish putting things away and organize, then start work.

Here is it's new spot, not as much room as before but it will work.
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...IMG_0004-5.jpg

Now for the bonus of moving to the NW, picked up a new tub that will reduce the amount of body work I will be doing. Compared to my other tub, it's practically rust free. So, when time provides, I should be able to get this build moving.

Re: '72 K5 Blazer CST = Yet another Build

The Rockers will have to be replace, along with repair of a few spots on the floor. But it will be a lot easier now. As a bonus, I will have a few parts to sell off for more parts. The windshield frame on the bad tub is in perfect condition.

:agree: you just probably saved a month or more in your build when it gets to that point!
