Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank

Hello all, I'm new to the site as I have just begun a frame-off on my newly purchased 71 SWB. Current plans are for an LT1/700R4 swap with rear mounted tank. I have read several discussions regarding the rear mount tank (which i'm planning for) and most are for having the filler either in the bed floor or in the stake pocket. I was really hoping not to have to modify the body and get a tank that would allow for a rear/center fill that I could access via the flip-down tag bracket. Anyone have any advice/concerns that I should consider? Thanks all and really enjoy all the great comments I have found thus far.

Respectfully,
Justin

Its not gonna work very well for the rear flip down plate filler. The tank sits to high and you would only be able to fill it 1/3 before it would pour out.

MSGROSS is correct. You have a couple options besides the bedfill and the stake pocket. You can go through the tail light which requires some modifications. Some guys do the filler through the side marker lights. All of the ones I have seen like this require some modifications too. I'm currently working on a sidemarker fill that will be "bolt-in" and not require any modifications to the bed itself.

MSGROSS and Hart_Rod, thanks for the info. I would like to know more about the setup your currently working on Hart_Rod. Will your setup work with the tank style mention in the group buy thread from Boyd Welding? I'm just trying to get the tank think sorted out so I might take advantage of the group buy on the tanks.

Thanks,
Justin

You should look into polishing them to Dave... Guys would pay for that and it would be an easy job once you have the process down...

I have been thinking about it the biggest problem is it is soooooo messy and i really dont have the space to dedicate the mess. Maybe in the future.

I am too, but I want a larger size than usual. Can you cut me a group buy discount even if I get a different size?

yes, i would be interested in the fuel injected model for a gen III motor. My truck is air bagged. I would like the bottom of the gas tank to be at the same level as the bottom of the rear bumper. I would like the dimensions of your standard rear tank so i can red line them to fit my app. thanks daniel

I would be interested in a group buy and have subscribed to this thread. I don't need anything special, your standard 67-72 tank looks good for me!

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank

I am also interested in a EFI speced tank with the licences plate fill location. I would definately like it to be larger than 18gals though. Possibly 22 to 25 gallons?

Thanks,
Adam

No problem, you will need to make measurements and apply those changes to our existing tank.

Mike,

This time around we will be supplying sending units in the tanks.

they will be 0-90 ohm senders.
