Re: 1956 3100 build
Hey G&R's57GMC the park brake pedal is out of a 1980 chev truck. one hood hinge bolt hole lines up.i had to weld small strip for other hole.made a bracket for mounting hole under dash area. other years both hood hinge bolts line up according to some.

Re: 1956 3100 build
awesome work and great looking truck!! Hows the 2008 yukon seats for driving position in the truck and for comfort in relationship to where the pedals go and position? Steering wheel? Thanks
|
Re: 1956 3100 build
hi jaws thanks for the kind words! I have seat position decent i think. have it centered with wheel. i had inside cab drawing from factory manual. https://i.ibb.co/0YYz7SF/truckseat.jpg so i set seat height as close to factory as possible. seat seems comfortable with tilt column gas pedal mounted as per instruction that came with it . will know this summer when it hits the streets hopefully.https://i.ibb.co/XJWL2kS/175337393-1...23387836-n.jpgme and wife kinda like 88-97 chev bench seat we had in it so i will keep those holes in floor just in case.just trying to save $$$ to redo bench at the momment. bench seat looks more truck if that makes sense.
https://i.ibb.co/LnJc3zJ/seat-and-hood-curtains-020.jpg but after seeing bam55 seat on this forum i am on the fence more about which way to go. https://i.ibb.co/tmDH2V5/50496654902-6688859212-z.jpg |
Re: 1956 3100 build
Seeing what you did to your firewall on the outside was a mirror of how I did mine. And you put in a BBC as well. Very nice job and clean as well. Think of running your wires from the the underside of the engine to the front??

Re: 1956 3100 build
hi my56chevytruck, do you have a pic of where your wiring comes through firewall? funny you mention firewall my body guy sent some pics yesterday of firewall in primer https://i.ibb.co/z7rg62J/174984194-1...70358122-n.jpghttps://i.ibb.co/yQZmCFg/176015026-1...729414-n-1.jpg

Re: 1956 3100 build
found some interesting info on using mercedes C class engine cooling fan .
https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads...-w-photos.html they move a serious amount of air and are 18" dia vs 15"-16" for volvo so a gain in sq .in area found 2 at u pull auto salvage $60.00 each. here is my cold case rad with fan shroud trimmmed from 26" to 22". fan is 2 3/4" thick if file down plastic slightly.need to make some mounting brakets. mercedes fan: https://i.ibb.co/0sd1HCn/169403558-1...22626436-n.jpg volvo fan: https://i.ibb.co/RzBTSXL/171281871-1...53109482-n.jpg |

Re: 1956 3100 build
Hey my56 thats pretty clean. i see where it goes in back of fender . if you have some pics where it runs along outside of fender would be great.i havent taken inner fender back to my body guy yet.last couple days i had local fab shop cut metal for corner of wheel tub. i welded it up so he could bead roll. this corner of tub bead rolled and dash cover for $40.00 with them supplying the metal i think was a good price:
edge after i welded up: https://i.ibb.co/0XDTV0t/174599670-1...071794-n-1.jpg edge bead rolled: https://i.ibb.co/2jTK7JC/179121481-1...25543745-n.jpg dash panel rolled: https://i.ibb.co/GQBZVJd/179980903-1...94981470-n.jpg i think i am just going to fill in center of dash and keep glove box like in this pic: https://i.ibb.co/gwjTWg5/8657588777-b9407d8143.jpg |
Re: 1956 3100 build
the wiring doesn't run along the outside of the inner fender, it runs within the groove of the inner fender. If you look at the inner fenders you can see there's 2 grooves, where as on the drivers side there's 1 groove, that's where my wiring runs thru. I cut out a pattern of that groove and welded over the groove allowing the wiring to run within it. Sorry, but I don't have any other pictures to show you. The wires run down to my radiator support where i ran them across the the lower front support to the other side for the passenger headlight and turn signal.

Re: 1956 3100 build
got unpainted box bolted together minus fenders today. will cross measure and make sure square before cutting bedwood to length. for anyone who has done bedwood is it ok to drill holes in wood that go under angle strips at this point or wait till box is ready to go on truck for good? i will have to drill a couple for wheel tub flange as well

Re: 1956 3100 build
hey bam was referring to your seat yes looks really nice. is it leather? i had a really good local upholster quote me $600 but i think it was just cloth.i am kinda torn on which seats to run.I had the bench in before so i will leave those mounting holes in floor.. i got box wood cut to length today:
https://i.ibb.co/MkNDYzK/4-C1-BE520-...4-DD4-DD05.jpg upon laying wood in to check things found out some holes in aftermarket headboard for wood are off or not there. :( good to find out now then drilling holes in freshly painted parts. |
