The truck looks GREAT! I enjoyed reading through what you have done so far.

Awesome truck exactly how I would build one. The dump bed would be really handy. One of my neighbor's has a 68 c30 327 4v. That I really want to get my hands on. Its a little rougher body wise than yours. It's original paint though. and still looks really good.

Abe, you are going to so hate me. this is the 69 I am going to drag back from Oregon. 350 Q-jet, 4 speed, c30 dually with dump bed. Haven't decided if I want to leave it a dump or find a longhorn bed and make that into a dually dump bed.

It seems like a nice truck dump bed rocks leave it a dually though.

I don't hate you I actually prefer the one around the corner, with the 327 which would get swapped out with big block. And the 327 would find a home in something a little more high performance. Not needing the grunt of a big block. I like the 68 front clip a lot better as well.

What wheelbase is your truck?

I think its 130" (maybe 133?). Here is what I am thinking, with the bed set up to tilt. But I have seen some nice ones with the flat bed that have been lowered too. Longhorn bed is the correct wheelbase.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project

yeah 133" wb the long horn beds do look nice on them though. I'm just like the look of flatbed on a 67-72 c30 it just works for me.

Modified square dually fenders look good on 67-72's if you want to run a D70 instead of a narrow 14B. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971-...ac5df47d#v4-36

Still chipping away at the little things while we wait and plan (and save $) for the bigger things...;)
My son and I hit up a local junkyard that won't scrap old iron in a effort to find some KD517 cab lights. We thought we'd just run to the local truck supply houses and pick up something close, but all we found were plastic, smaller want-a-be's...didn't like anything we saw and didn't want to go to modern style LED's. So, good ole metal and glass it's going to be.
We found 4 good bases, 2 decent tops, and 3 decent glass lenses off of a couple different rigs. We are cleaning up the 3 that are on there now and will add 2 more front and center (the bases in the pics have already been media blasted). Also found a decent glove box door, latch, and hinge...ours was bent to hell and screwed to the dash to hold it closed. A bit of sanding/paint along with a new inner box had us enjoying a glove box that we could actually use.
While we were in there (and its getting into the 50's next week) we also wanted to fix the heat. The heater/fan has been unhooked since we got the truck and we weren't sure what might have been wrong. We ran power to it and it seemed smooth and quiet...:metal:.
Cleaned it all up with new hoses inside and out and we have heat and defrost now.:metal::metal:

The cab lights were fairly rough, but working. We did a quickie clean and paint on the cab underneath the bases to temporarily halt the rusting...it will get more attention later on. At least half the bases had missing threaded inserts, we spot welded small nuts in their place before paint. We used camper shell type adhesive backed insulation underneath the bases and lenses as gasket material...best we could find:waah:

Not sure how I missed this thred before but I am stoked that I stumbled onto it... That thing is sweeeeeeet. I never really thought of a flatbed dually as a possible project but...... I know where there might be a Task Force flatbed dually ??????? Nice work gentlemen, even better you get to hang with your boys at the same time. :metal:

on my way to vote TOTM

Thanks for the comments AND votes...very much appreciated!

Finished up the cab lights :metal: We also put new latches and inner release relays on both doors since a patch on the driver side latch just wasn't cutting it. Doors still close hard but fully latch and open a lot easier...passenger side hinge mounts are shot though.
The "impulse buy" thing kicked in while I was picking up the door pieces:lol:...didn't really need new handles or window cranks, but they were on sale, and shiny!

Looks nice! Those impulse buys sure hurt the next day. Well for me they do anyway.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project

That is too funny... and I thought I was the only one......

Awhile back, I took the wife with me to one of the big parts stores down south and even though my project is a long way away from needing them, she insisted that the truck had to have something shinny to bring home...:mm: I have a complete set of interior handles sitting on the bookcase waiting to go in.

Nice work on the lights, I dig the fact that you went olskool and redid the original stuff... very cool.

Looks great man! It's those little things though that sometimes make the biggest impacts.
