Re: My 86 build
Are the one from rock auto, etc. pretty close?
I've even seen some on ebay for 50 bux. They good for driver quality? My budget doesn't allow for a 500 or even a 150 dollar grille. thanks! Sorry to hijack D! |

Re: My 86 build
Great work as usual.
I really need to start adding my efforts to my build thread as well. By the time I'm done, it's too late for pics! LOL |

A little trick I learned watching Overhaulin. Chip was working on a truck, the bed to the tailgate, the gaps weren't even from side to side. He used a Porta Power. So I tried it and it worked.
As you can see, the right side, the gap was narrow compared to the left side. After using the Porta Power, the gaps are even and the tailgate no longer rubs the bed. |

New aluminum door sills and lighted bowtie threshold plate. The lighted Bowtie looks good at night.

Your truck is one of my favorites . Keep up the good work. If the red hood comes up in the forsale section I am in need if one.

I hope you do a build thread, I would like to see more of your truck. |
Re: My 86 build
Ok thanks. I would like to do a build thread if I ever get time. This was my dads truck and is now my daughters, trying to teach her about about them.

Worked on one of those small details, the ashtray. I don't smoke nor use the ashtray, but I wanted it to look nice. A NOS ashtray, 1) are hard to find 2) too much money.
So after seeing what another member did with his, I tried it on mine and an extra ashtray I had. Brushed them down with a wire brush, then cleaned with brake cleaner and then soap & water. I then sprayed them down with prep cleaner. Hit them a few times with DupliColor Stainless Steel paint. |
Re: My 86 build
That turned out excellent TKCR. Nice clean look on a part that most people skip over.

Also changed the dome light to an LED. First got a new dome light housing from LMC. And then used this LED bulb.

My 2 brothers were here for Thanksgiving, so I had them help me swap out the hoods. Now I just need to set something up with the guy who's going to paint. Can't wait!!

After noticing another member making some minor detail work, I never knew that the jack was mounted to the inner fender, as shown in photos #1 & #2.. I already had the jack, bracket and rod. They have just been sitting in the garage collecting dust. So I have tracked down all the other parts needed to mount the jack & accessories, as shown in photo #3.
Now for a good sanding, cleaning and a paint refresh. Photos will follow when I get it done. |
