Um, im thinking im going to cut it under the cab, i think it will look a whole lot better that way.

I havent done any measurements but I am in the same boat as you on this. I already have a Truck. I have read that you can move the leaf spring and axle assembly forward to the shortwheelbase locations but I am not for sure.

With that method I wondered a few things:
If you move the axle forward will that mess with centering the wheel in the wheelwell?

I figured the leaf springs would have to be the same length between a long and short but I am not 100% for sure. Wouldnt make sense if they different but...

What happens since you would be moving the hanger it would be moved down towards the ground and forward since the frame dips down when you move towards underneath the cab forward.

Re: My 93 Crewcab Build

I think im going to cut it under the cab, it seems like it will be more of a pain in the arse but will look better and be easier, that way you dont have to mess with any of the leaf spring perches and just cut some off the back of the frame also. Will have to cut the rear cab mount off and the front bed mount and move them.

Re: My 93 Crewcab Build

Are these trucks different than the 73-87 trucks as far as where they get cut? The 73-87 trucks are usually just cut right behind the cab, and then just welded back up.

Is that even possible? The frame bends upward behind the cab I believe. Then it levels out from there to the end of the frame rail.

that is what I was thinking....cutting it under the cab will just shorten where the cab sits, I dunno how you would ever get +/-12 inches out of the frame under the cab. I think you are going to have to cut behind the cab and work with the angle, graft on a short bed frame from the cab back, or extend a extra-cab short bed frame.....

but I haven't paid attention to how the long bed frames are. Could you move the front spring hangers forward and shorten the frame under the middle of the bed then just move the rear spring hangers back?

a lot of it will depend on where the bed bolts are on the short bed in relation to the long bed.

There is about a foot before the frame bends upward to where it will hit the cab if i do cut it under the cab. Still have to put a tape to it and do some figuring, that would be cool to just cut the back of frame off and move the spring hangers but id have to look at it more to see if that would be better to do it that way or not..

Re: My 93 Crewcab Build

Dude, quit making such a fuss out of this. Just chop the frame about 2 feet behind the cab and leave it sticking out like a couple of handles for Joe to hang onto while he pushes you around town. You can rev the engine for effect and hang some chinese lights on it...................

I fix things quick.

I'm just sayin.....................

Re: My 93 Crewcab Build

Scott......Ok, that makes sense.
If I remember correctly you need to remove 12" behind the cab.
It would be a lot of work, but I think it would be helpful to pull the beds off one of your short bed trucks and the crew and compare them side by side....

If you were going to do that, why not just chop and swap?

Take his shortbed 3/4 ton that's not running anyway and cut the frame off behind the cab and swap it with the crew.

Then he can swap his half ton suspension from the white truck.

See I fix things FAST!!!

Got the bed off and some measuring in, think it might be a whole lot easier to move the hangers and find a gas tank than hassle with cab and bed mounts but im going to measure a bunch more and see...

Also started the rebuild on my 700R4 ;)
Started with a rather expensive work table, with 1/2 plywood and 1/4 trim all the way around so nothing could roll off as easily.
