Re: DJ JR's Build Thread

I have cable in the shop but no room for a decent TV. I gave Cade the Tv I was gonna put in the shop. I usually listen to the radio and DVR what I want to watch.

Hey Kevin, is that 650cfm double pumper even big enough for that big block?

Great progress at any rate.

Congrats Cade on a very nice build!

its a good place to start off a 14yr old. When he learns to drive well it will get a bigger one and some nitrous!

Dj, Very nice father son project! Cade, a little advice to you, keep your grades up and don't give your mom a hard time! LOL Verry nice truck guys R, Mark

Re: DJ JR's Build Thread

Cade only has one football game left and no more football practice(YEAH) for a while so hopefully I can get him back to helping me on the truck. I hope taking him to cruisin the coast will help motivate him a little.

I just got mine back from the chassis shop so I have some work to do to it also.

Great father son project DJ. Your son is a lucky guy to have a dad like you who wants to do a project with him. That was the farthest thing from my dad's mind when I was a teenager.

My daughter is already a truck nut and at 6 years old is out trying to turn wrenches with me.

I would love to build something with her like you are doing with your son. I hope she stays interested.

Football Season. Cade thinks he has to watch every game that comes on Tv so the truck has been on the back burner. I refuse to do it by myself. He is starting to get the driving bug so hopefully we can get back on the truck soon.

Love checking up on this thread. Gives me some good ideas for the build im currently working on. Im definatley ordering up the tubular motor mounts and cross member kit you had posted earlier on as im in the search for a cross member to ditch my 4 speed saginaw for a th350. I see you went with a painless wiring harness? How are them and wich one do you use. The po of my truck made such a mess of my all the wiring from headlight to tail light, is the painless the way to go to solve this?

djracer 01-23-2012 09:58 PM

Re: DJ JR's Build Thread

I haven't done the wiring yet but I want to hide as much as possible so I bought a universal kit so I could customize it. We have got to get back on it so it will be running this Spring.

Re: DJ JR's Build Thread

Engine is a BBC right? If so what size?

Small Block Chevy fan here. :)

Me and my buddy just finished up a wiring job on a 1964 short bed Chevy step side. He was not happy about it, but it's really not that difficult at all. I told him we just have to keep all the wires alway from moving parts and anything that can get hot. And overall he did a very good job for his first time.

I really need to update all the build pics I have and upload them.

GOOD LUCK with the rest of Cade's project. I am sure it will turn out great!

Now we got to get to work on rewiring the truck and putting the rest of the truck back together. We just did some temporary wiring to get the truck going today. Special Thanks go out to Mark Causey and Jerry Carlisle for helping today. I bought a used all aluminum radiator this week I just have to have it cleaned up before installing it. We are selling Cade's XR80 to buy more parts.

Re: DJ JR's Build Thread

We have made a good bit of progress but I have been too busy to stop and post pics. Here are some pics of the shifter mount I designed and we fabbed. My Chassis guy bent the tubing and my neighbor tig welded the mounting straps for the shifter itself. Mark Causey mig welded the other mounting brackets. I ordered a polished and anodized cover for the shifter. I hope it makes it by the weekend.

Re: DJ JR's Build Thread

The seat for the truck is a second row suburban seat and the bottom flips forward so I didn't want to mount the shifter from the floor.

We got the exhaust done last Saturday. 3.5 inch manual cut outs and 3 in magnaflows turned out under the steps of the bed.
