i have a 1966 chevy 3/4 t survivor needing help. its the damn power steering ram and control valve> where in the world are the repair parts. mine is leaking and quickly losing power steering! advice, referrals etc all welcome! thanks

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?

the rams you can get new or have yours rebuild . the control valve is the standard chevy unit try a corvette restoration place they should have all the parts except the hoses. that what i did on my 66

Hubcaps on modern 16" 8 lug bump type wheels???? How does that work? Did you install clips on these wheels? Or are they 16.5" clip type wheels?

A little investigation is in order. I knew somewhere there were some caps that may fit newer wheels. I have a 90's set of 8 lug chevy wheels, and it looks like my 66 3/4 t caps fit very close. I have to do some r&d and i cant do that quite yet. But i think i can make them work. I will post some pics....sometime. lol

Hmmm, what am I missing? the 16" bump wheels I have require a large cap with 11-3/4" inside, no flange. Where'd ya get those wheels, and how big were those caps? I don't get it.

my 3/4 ton has a set of ford 16" steelies with the hubcap bumps. They take a very large hub cap. I would love to know what 8 hole wheel will take regular caps!

Hi Im a newbie here but used to old trucks. My 62 K 20 Im rebuilding has 17" Hercules hdt 17's there very old. Looks to be split wheels. All trucks this era seem to be 16.5- 17.5. The wheels are the same color as the truck, and is wearing original paint. It was built in the NewYork plant. Any good sources on some stock 17s? Im running some 16s on my daily W200,( ya its a Dodge, Please go ez on me. ) 7.50-16s Primex trac master. I baught from Nebraska tire.

The original wheel tire combo on my half ton was 16" and the wheels on my 1 ton were 16" as well. LOTS of wheels interchange since the 8 lug pattern is the same on Ferd, dodge, chebby and GMC. Most tire shops wont touch split rims so I think your best bet is to shop for some take offs at your local used tire shops.

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?

I love the stock trucks as well. At car shows people really seem to get more nostalgic about the stock set ups. However, unless there is a stock class, the bling usually gets the trophy. Mine is stock except for the edlebrock carb and air cleaner. My rubber is finally starting to crack on the ol' 16.5 steelies, so I have purchased some AR23's to brighten it up a bit. I am keeping all the stock parts that are replaced though and will refurbish and powdercoat at some point when the funds come available.

Old trucks left original just takes you back in time to a related memory.
The smell. The sound of the straight six. The sound of the rattling gearshift.

For me, the smell, and the rattling 4-speed gearshift takes me back to us grandchildren all cramped in the cab with grandpa and grandma going camping. :)

OK, In about 3 days I will be moving my 66 to the new frame. :metal:
Right now it is a half ton with 8 lug suspension.
However, it is going on a 3/4 ton 1971 frame.
Power steering, hydro-boost brakes, 5 speed overdrive, steel bed floor.
Yes, I am bringing this antique at least into the latter part of the 20th century.
Here is a before photo...
I LOVE 3/4 ton and bigger GMC trucks

Gmcdeadhead,

I put those same wheels on my 66 3/4 ton GMC. On mine, the center caps don't fit the rear hubs -- they aren't deep enough. Did you do anything special to get the rear caps to fit? Thanks.
