Seat cover (and entire interior) looks fantastic!

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

Thanks :metal: The small brown areas on the seat's bottom aren't real visible without the camcorder. The camera lens detects better. The seat has been covered with a cheap seat cover to protect it, all the time I've owned the truck and then some. Probably 20+ years.

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

A couple hours worth of work update. :metal:

The only snag we've run into so far. The front panel wouldn't lift up far enough to line up.
We concluded this to be a stamping error and adjusted as needed. It'll clean up later.
Also, spot welds on the top insides of the bedsides were hammered flat to help achieve proper clearance (upward from within).

Pass. side didn't need modified, other than hammering on the weld.

The new co-worker. He doesn't do much of anything

No truck work/updates for the rest of this week.
In next week's episode, we'll fit the rear wheel wells, tailgate, and drill holes for bed wood (where necessary) all around.

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

Looks good to me. I'm going to try to put my ole bed together this week myself. Thanks for showing me how. Oh dang, mine don't have that sweet wood in the floor:(

litew8 11-12-2013 01:10 AM

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

That 'sweet wood' will be getting covered with a rubber mat if hauling scratch insistent objects  There are some minor differences between short/long steel/wood.

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

We've pretty much got the bed wood buttoned up. Pics up later.

Truck abuse

http://ilsiciliano.net/truck/DSC05025.JPG

Tailgate on.

http://ilsiciliano.net/truck/DSC05027.JPG

http://ilsiciliano.net/truck/DSC05029.JPG

Holes on the bedsides > front panel have been drilled out to correct the misalignment issues.
We're ready to mark and drill our perimeter and tub holes for the bed wood.
After that, tear it apart and finish up. :sumo: :metal: :chevy:

Improved heavy duty fix.

http://ilsiciliano.net/truck/DSC05031.JPG

http://ilsiciliano.net/truck/DSC05044.JPG

Lines. Shimmed the bed cross sill (driver's side corner) from frame to correct unevenness.

http://ilsiciliano.net/truck/DSC05033.JPG

Bed wood all buttoned up. Needs no more attention :metal:

http://ilsiciliano.net/truck/DSC05034.JPG

Driver's side bedside needed a little modification.
Top rail middle bend was too obtrusive. Broke the spot welds to relieve the pressure.
Done.

Nice progress on your bed. I had a few set backs on mine. Maybe soon.

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

I am interested in Zero Rust. It looks like you applied it to almost everything lol. I do not have access to a blaster, so would zero rust be an option for me, if I cant prep each piece like you have on your build?

litew8 11-18-2013 10:12 PM

Re: Project "My Happy Mess"

For me, Zero Rust was cost effective and user friendly. It's held up good as far as I can tell. It likes to be applied to bare metal.
Red (for first coat) and Black (for second coat) are the recommended colors to use: Zero Rust
