Wow what a journey! I spent 5 evenings poring over this build, which started in year 2000 (even though the first post was 2012). thanks for sharing your sanity with us and sorry I wasn’t there to encourage you along the way but here I am now haha! It would be great to seethe “after” photos the same angle as your photos from first post, that would be quite a contrast! Beautiful job my man

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this crazy journey. I've made quite a few changes along the way. Right now I'm working on getting the bed wood installed and the bed back on the truck. Hopefully in the next few days I'll be finished.

I posted over in the general info area but I'll post here also. I really need some good photos of the front of the bed on a long fleetside that shows the front bed mount positions. An over head pic would be great and any bare frames also. I'm having an issue that I'll explain later.

This is what I have, a '62 long fleetside.

Thanks for the photos. I finally solved the mystery. I have had the bed partially together for so long I forgot there is a 3rd cross sill at the front of the bed. No wonder the mounting holes were not working. What a DUH moment when I figured that out. So I got another cross sill put on. It took what seemed like forever to get the bed aligned again. So, I finally got the bed back on the truck. Sanity has been restored to itself with a brand new bed. Oh, and I installed a gas fill door. 100% done by me. I'm very happy with how it turned out.

Hey, thanks for looking in and for the wonderful comments, This was one of the biggest challenges I've had on my Sanity.:josh: It really kicked my ass.

With the bed done, the next thing on the list is to finish the insides of the doors. I put some insulation in the back of the door panels but I forgot to take a picture before I put them on. first was to tape everything off to eliminate overspray. This Aluma-blast paint has enough metallic in it that likes to go everywhere given the chance. I think I might do a touch up on the lower panels. I painted the door panels an epoxy satin black with all new ss Allen head bolts to attach them. I installed my NOS door handles and a pair of very nice window cranks. So, that's one more project finished. Next I need to get some carpet installed, get some music going, and the AC. please excuse the poor photos.

I have been putting some miles on Sanity and really enjoying it. I've been in a couple of shows and hanging with C10 club here in Tucson that have a monthly meet up Ried Park. I've still got some things to do but they aren't keeping me from driving. I've got the mileage to where I'm ready to change out the break in oil. I'm also going to put some new plugs in and check the timing.

Man that has gotta be fun to drive after all you have done. Looking forward to my daily driver, soon!

What are the colors top and bottom?
The pictures seem to give off a green tint on the top.

Nice looking

The top is the stock ivory white used on all 2 tone trucks of our years. the bottom is Seamist Jade metallic from 62-63 trucks.

For some reason my #2 cooling fan did not come on at the set temp so today I'm running some diagnosis on the controller. It is a Dakota Digital controller with some great test modes so I hope to get it figured out fairly easy. The outside temps are getting warmer around here so I'm going to need it.

Re: pdx-sanity66

Sometimes thinking that something is going to be easy is just wrong.
I spent several hours today trying to figure out what is wrong with #2 cooling fan including totally reprogramming the controller. Now both fans have stopped working. End of the day so tomorrow I dig deeper.

Re: pdx-sanity66

So, I am still working on my cooling system. I contacted Dakota Digital for some help. Their customer service is great. I went through some tests that Brian suggested and I finally determined that the relays are not working so I'm ordering 2 new 70amp relays. I hope this works because there are some shows and cruises I have already missed and more coming up. Car and truck show season is in full swing this time of year.

Fingers crossed.
It would be a shame not to take advantage of the good weather.

Re: pdx-sanity66

Well, the new relays have not solved the problem. There is nothing else it could be but the controller. I have a new one on order. I have checked and double checked all of the wiring and connectors and it is all good. I've got to have this fixed bye the weekend. I've got some get togethers this weekend that I don't want to miss.

Re: pdx-sanity66

can you just hook up a switch to the relays to get you by for now?

Re: pdx-sanity66

Well, I missed the C10 club meet up last Saturday but I finally got the cooling fan issue resolved. I put in a new controller and relays and checked and replaced any connectors that were needed. I changed the controller power circuit. I found there was a problem with the trigger power to the controller. I still didn't work. I had dual 30 amp fuses between the battery and the relays that have been in the setup since I first put the system together. I measured the voltage at the exit of the fuse block to the relays and there was 12v so I thought voltage to the relays was good. I was WRONG. Even though I measured 12v it must have been weak. I removed the fuses and wired the relays directly to the battery and that did it. It all works now. So today I'll get to cleaning up and make everything pretty again. This has been an incredible difficult job trying to get to where I could get under the dash. There's not alot of room to get under there. I removed the steering wheel and proceeded to contort myself to reach things. It certainly doesn't work well being 6'1", 210 lbs, and too big of hands to try to get in where I needed to.
I am SO glad it's done. This 72-year-old body is really feeling it right now.

Thanks man, I almost gave up a couple of times but I'm too stubborn to quit. Driving again is great. Now I have to get an AC ordered. The hot weather is coming fast.

Re: pdx-sanity66

I installed a new temp gauge in Sanity yesterday and that is the last thing that was killed during all the mess I had. I am now ready to order an AC system. I hope that I can get one before June when we leave for the great northwest for a few weeks. If not, I'll order it for Aug. Other than that, I need to clean up Sanity for the weekend. There are a couple of events this weekend I would like to attend.

Wow! What a read! I love your truck, and work, and I think I've seen Sanity at a car show...

Can you post a link about the local C10 club? I don't know if they'll let in clunk V20's though....

Just get on Facebook and search C10 Club Tucson should get you there. They pretty much let all old chevy trucks participate. We have a monthly meeting at Reid Park. Thanks for looking at my thread and yes I have done a couple of shows.
