Finally was able to get some things done on the truck.
I needed to fab a trans cover so this is what i came up with.
Pic #1 shows a frame work i came up with.
#2 Lay out of the bends to be made.
#3 As I don't have a brake I cut 1" slits an inch apart.
#4 and #5 Clamped it to my bench and made the bends.
Worked out pretty good.

More of trans cover.
#1 and #2Tacked to my frame.
#3 A frame that is welded to the truck floor with holes that I tapped so I can remove the cover (probably will never happen).
#4 and #5 Sitting in place.
Welded my slits up so it looks a little better.
I'm using 1/4x20 button head screws to attach it.

Was also able to get the cab very close to being put on the frame.
I just need to figure what color I want the fire wall to bve.
Probably go with gloss black as I'm not ready to purchase the paint for the entire truck yet.
Still need to do a final sanding and seal on it.

And a few of the dash.
Not perfect but pretty good as I'm no body man.

now that's smooth. lots of guys are installing a guage cluster these days though, haha.
bodywork looks great. are you full on now or starting back slow? don't wanna overdue it and end up on the couch again.

Re: My 57 Pro Street

The cab looks really straight, inside and out!
I like the transcover, suits the cab good, just as smooth.
Glad seeing updates again Kim!!

Thanks for the compliments guys.
Not over doing it for now. Try to get in an hour or two as time and my body permits.

Re: My 57 Pro Street

it is coming along nice. that is how it gets done, an hour at a time. if you're lucky you don't have to put it all away in between the work times. that is half my problem. it takes me more time to dig it out and get started and then clean up after working than the time I get to work on it. right now I am just looking at it because of the shoulder surgery.
an hour a ta time and you'll be driving it soon.

Kim, nice work and I really like the detail for the transmission cover. That gives me ideas for mine. Thanks for sharing.

I'm lucky that I get to use the two car side of the garage for my project.
Leaves my DD out but the wife gats her car inside.
Hope your shoulder heals quickly..

Kim, nice job on everything, looks super. Been years since I've seen a VW fastback (background), looks to be in great shape...Jim

Good to hear your slowly getting back at it. Trans cover turned out really good, cab looks nice so far. You could always paint the fire wall dark gray? Something a bit different than black.

Bought the VW for my kid. He's only 15 but loves the old VWs.
It fits his gear better than a bug. He plays guitars and has a real gift for the base.

Dark gray is a good idea. I'll have to mull that over.

Man, everything looks great, Kim! If you're, "not a body man" you're doing a helluva good impression of one, ha ha.

What will you use for gauges on your dash? I thought long & hard about smoothing my dash but leaving the hump instead of the '55 car dash. In fact I almost went with it when the first deal I found on a car dash fell through. Really looking forward to how you finish it.

Maybe I missed it - do you have a final color in mind? I ask because with all the nice custom work you're doing it would be nice to have your firewall and inner fenders match the outside - but that's just my opinion and you know what those are worth, ha ha!

Old school hotrod is white, and of course there's the checkerboard look. Go over to the HAMB for examples (though I admit I wouldn't do checkerboard).

If you want to get fancy and since your firewall is flat a cool idea might be a big engine turned panel adhered to the surface (Man, we're good at spending other guy's money, huh?)
