Re: My 93 Crewcab Build
Anyone have any info on shortening a frame on a 88-98? Found one here on the site but where they cut it, it looks as if it raises the rear of truck when your done.
|
Re: My 93 Crewcab Build
ten -15 years ago a kid i knew built his own1/2 ton using a extended cab long box frame he slid the rear cab mounts back and cut them to fit was the only mod he had to do he said. he built 3/4 a couple of years later and he discovered the rear mounts from a short box extended cab fit perfectly

Scott's truck is already a crew cab longbed. |
Re: My 93 Crewcab Build
Yeah i may have to cut under the cab and shorten the rear of frame too, under the cab would suck but oh well...

Re: My 93 Crewcab Build
Got the crew out to parents shop to get away from the theivin mofos! and got the rear end yanked out and some measuring done so i can get a game plan on where in going to cut the frame :chevy:

Re: My 93 Crewcab Build
you was supposed to say "aye cappin, I'm givin er all she's got!!!"
So anyway, did you figure out yet where you need to cut the frame? |
Re: My 93 Crewcab Build
Um, im thinking im going to cut it under the cab, i think it will look a whole lot better that way.

With that method I wondered a few things: If you move the axle forward will that mess with centering the wheel in the wheelwell? I figured the leaf springs would have to be the same length between a long and short but I am not 100% for sure. Wouldnt make sense if they different but... What happens since you would be moving the hanger it would be moved down towards the ground and forward since the frame dips down when you move towards underneath the cab forward. |
Re: My 93 Crewcab Build
I think im going to cut it under the cab, it seems like it will be more of a pain in the arse but will look better and be easier, that way you dont have to mess with any of the leaf spring perches and just cut some off the back of the frame also. Will have to cut the rear cab mount off and the front bed mount and move them.

Re: My 93 Crewcab Build
Are these trucks different than the 73-87 trucks as far as where they get cut? The 73-87 trucks are usually just cut right behind the cab, and then just welded back up.
