Now that I have this completed I need to set the new doors and install the rockers. Then finish welding in the filler for the wiring track on the firewall, weld up a few holes here and there, check the roof for little surprises, then go over the cab to see if everything is welded in completely and the cab will be ready for body work.... Steve

Patch to fill the gap

All welded in. Some of my best welding yet I think.....:metal:

On to some of the custom touches I wanted to do to Jezebel. The cap for the wire gutter. I will wait till I get the cab back on the frame before attaching the door to align the rockers. This way I can attach the fender to make sure all is aligned properly.

I had a dilemma of whether to cap the gutter at a 45deg angle or just a flat cap (90deg). I liked the look of the 45deg cap but compound angles have never been my specialty. I decided to try the 45deg cap anyway and I think it turned out really well thanks to the stretcher and shrinker I borrowed from a buddy. I still have a little welding to do (welder ran out of gas) then more grinding but I really like the way it looks.

Here is where I started.
Attachment 598861

I cut this arch off to make the cap appear more uniform.
Attachment 598862

This is the first cap piece. I'm not sure you can see the compound shape that well from this pic. The stretcher and shrinker made the fitment of this pieces a lot better. Not sure If I could have made them without it.
Attachment 598863

The first couple cap pieces tacked into place. The fit was really good if I do say so my self. At least for my work that is....

And the drivers side.

looking good! I was very pleased with how the cap came out on my cab as well...think the 45 degree angle really sets it off. and you're right....the shrinker/stretcher was a mandatory tool...

That does look really good. I'll be over to have you fit me some caps as soon as I complete my firewall patching :c2:

Getting to the end of the rust finally. I never thought the day would come where I could start thinking about where I need to go from here...

Dr drip rail needed some attention at the bottom. Not too bad huh? Well be careful of what lurks behinds the bubbles in the paint!
Attachment 599513

Rust, filler and another old school repair that someone brazed. Wouldn't have been bad if they would have brazed it completely closed. Left it open for moisture to enter through the filler. Not too hard to fix though.
Attachment 599514

Cut out a 3"x1/2" section and welded in new metal. Still needs a little shaping and a little more grinding to smooth it out.
Attachment 599515

One of only two small holes I found in the roof. I was glad not to find more considering the history I have had with the little artifacts (rust repairs) I have found in this gem :metal:. This was over the dr door.
Attachment 599516

This is the only other rust spot in the roof.

I still have to get the completed pics of the Pass drip rail but it's just a mirror image of the Dr side.

2nd rust spot on roof fixed. Just above the windshield

Attachment 599530

More sneaky little rust. Pass drip rail.
Attachment 599531

The rust in this pic is not as bad as it looks. Just surface rust that came off quickly with a wire brush.

Yep, I have 1 more spot in the windshield channel to fix. After that I will have to bring out the bloodhound to search for any rust I have missed. After that if all is well the rust will have been beaten. Then I will move on to finishing smoothing the firewall.

Hey Rob. I'm trying to get this done by Oct. I have a backup in the burb if Jezebel don't make it. How about the "Old Farm Truck"? How's she running after the tune?

I have been slacking a while uploading pics and providing updates. Lots of progress to talk about.

There was a small rust spot in the Dr. side windshield channel. Not too bad to fix. Just cut the bad area out and form a replacement.

Next was a small patch next to the pass side cab corner. This was a little tricky getting the profile correct but with a little hand work I think it came out pretty good.

Next on to the pass outer rocker. This went fairly well. A few small tweaks here and there. A pie cut here and there and it fits pretty good now.

Next was the Dr. side. The profile of the cab corner did not match the lower door. I had to cut a relief cut and pull the skin out to match the profile of the door. Not too tough, just had to fiddle with it a little to get it to aligned.

Now on to the Dr outer rocker. The lower section where it meets up to the cab corner was a little short. I cut the edge off so I could maintain the profile and added a 1/4" section to fill the gap. Came out looking really good.
